Fall and hunting have come and gone. College football is done. Holidays are over. Broken New Year resolutions. Mud season just around the corner.

Mid January to end of March is my least favorite time of year. At least the days are getting longer.

I severely dislike mud season. And by the time I get home from work, it's still pretty dark. Only time I can accomplish anything is weekends. It's just a grind through the week to there. Makes me want to use vacation just to break it up a bit.

Yup, this winter especially along with the last few have been a bust there too. Not enough snow to do snow stuff and too soggy to do anything else.

If we get a break from rain I think I'll take a day off. Today was sunny and I really wanted to get outside. Jan-Feb are hard. Dark when you leave the house, dark when you get home. Only thing to look forward to is the weekend and wouldn't you know it? Rain all weekend, every weekend. I did order a new set of mud boots, so I got that to look forward to!

This time of year is tough, get up at dark and don’t get home til dark with work. I hate that fall back time change we have. I’m in the same boat having to wait til the weekend get anything done. I long for sunny days and good evening light.

What is this "mud season just around the corner" you speak of? Thank goodness for 4 wheel drive tractors. Even the cows are tired of it.

Here in tropical Pa, we're lucky to have rain and at least 5 cloudy days per week.:startled:

We're working at a water company that has plants all over the world. I just said yesterday we need to get a job somewhere where the weather is nice right now...:binoculars:

I've been happy that we've been dodging the snow, one less thing to mess around with.
Not what I was expecting with the December cold we had.

It could be worse! Just think of all the times in January when it was tough going and cold enough to freeze the brass monkeys.

Last few years I said I will work on getting along with my boss. First conversation of the year with him, I realize he's :loco:  and that resolution goes out the window.

I thought someone might have some frozen ground somewhere. In PA the 3 seasons are summer, fall, mud.

That's true. There has to be an in between. Frozen ground without needing hand warmers in the under roos.

Since Christmas we’ve had two 12”+ snow events, eight straight days of temps never going above 0*F and now 3 days of at Or slightly above 32*F with rain/ sleet/ wintery mix and tonight we’re told to prepare for 3-7” of the white chit again on top of this past 3 days of rain.

Being in a warm spell since New Years is throwing me all off. Usually I'm taking my kids sledding and trying to make the most of the season. It's like we've been living in perpetual mid-March and it's definitely been giving me that antsy feeling. I wouldn't doubt we end up getting clobbered with cold and snow come February-March though.

Other morning I was hanging out with the wood stacks and I heard all this noise.
A flock of robins came through. I'm like what the hell are they doing here.

Welcome to our winters. Getting snow in a winter is a one or two time event. Mostly it is grey overcast with rain in varying intensity.

We still have rabbit hunting for a few more weeks, but mud season is already here.

This is my favorite time of year to cut wood. No bugs, no weeds, no heat, no humidity.

I look forward to this time of year. From September - Christmas life feels like a raceway. I enjoy the down time some. I can pick and choose days I want to accomplish something outside or just take it easy indoors and spend a little quality time with the wife and kids. I also get out of state for some long ski weekends. Vermont here I come!
