I grew up on elderberry jelly, it was my mother's favorite and we were never without it in the fridge. My wife likes it also and we harvest to make jelly and pie every year. Awesome stuff...
Yes sir. It was taunting me. Went back after work, threw on coveralls, boots and jacket. Grabbed the saw filled it up,c and hooked up the trailer. This was it. 6 pieces. And a root of something that I took to clean up, even though it wasn't from the HL. It'll burn. And all loaded I looked at the picture when I rolled up, to the loaded picture and it was 13 minutes. Some of these will be chunk wood, because they are definitely not 16". Others, like the stuff to the front, will be full 16-18" long regular splits. Didn't even need the saw. But had I not brought it I'd have needed it.
It's going to snow here again tomorrow night through Thursday. Figured I'd grab it while I could and move it while I can easily.

Like I said, I've been working out I'm only a couple years younger than you. TBH, I'm all about making it easy. I rolled those to the end of the trailer and then used my old locust wedge you can see in the trailer as a step and atlas pushed these up. Some I just picked up. At any rate they are all heavy
That stuff splits so hard once it’s kinda dry….. smart to get it done quickly. I had a few random rounds last summer, in a pile fir about two years. My splitter was not happy
I recall that it gets to be a serious pita to split once it dries a bit. A couple of years ago, during COVID fun, I was bored at home. Had to get out of the house. I saw an ad for free "maple" . I went. It wasn't maple. It was HL that was mostly in big short rounds that was all cut the Year prior. Figured I'd just use the maul and make lighter chunks. Nope. Even at only 6-8" tall the wood wouldn't split. The hydraulic splitter handled it, and I was able to make nice big pieces that will be great overnighters whenever I want to burn them. I split a couple rounds up yesterday of the last of this score. Then ran out of gas. I'll get the rest done today. I have to run into town for softener pellets, dog food, and I have 90¢ off a gallon to use and I need gas for the truck. Good timing.
I do. The limit with the discount is up to 35 gallons. So usually I have enough to put 2-3 gallons in the gas can after filling up. That big tank sure is nice when you go road tripping though. 700+ miles to a tank is nice. We crossed through parts of Wyoming in September 2021 where we needed 500+ miles range. There were literally no gas stations.
Oh, don’t get me wrong i enjoy the benefits, filling on the other hand. The local station has decent price so it’s busy. I’m always getting looks for tying up the pump, like I enjoy being there.
Lol. Yeah I get that too. I didn't fill all the way up. About 3/4 full was good enough and 3 gallons in the gas can. My 4 mile commute will make that last a long time. Although I won't be getting 90 cents off again for a while. I'm getting a windows laptop to be able to use my forscan cable so I can play with settings on my truck. After getting a new battery last week, the battery was out for 30 minutes and the trucks amber running lights ( '16 lariat with LED lights) won't go on when it's running. They used to come on even when remote start was used. It's not a setting I can adjust even in the advanced settings on the display. Ever seen that before?
All split up now. There are a couple pieces I can't split with the 21 ton MTD. They are either afle cuts and slip off the foot, or are too twisted to split. There's probably 10 splits in those couple of uglies. I'll break the saw out one of these days on them. Otherwise they will be big fuglies for fire pit use.
