Today I split my honey locust score I got earlier this week. I had just enough traction to get the loaded trailer to my split holding area. It was about 32° or so out. The grass would get a little greasy. The fresh split HL on the right Those rounds and halves are heavy. Notice the vertical splitting? This is the only time I do this. I didn't use a milk crate. A wider shot. More in the trailer Progress, but losing daylight What I ended up with with the amount of rounds left on the trailer. I was done, needing daylight to put the tractor away and bring a load of splits to the house from the shed. There's a little more work to do tomorrow. And then I'll see if those 4 rounds are left from where I scored these. They were there Friday afternoon. These big rounds are just too heavy for anyone else to bother with. I need some more gas for the tractor and splitter, so I'll just put the trailer on the truck and get those.
Man, that's some doing! Looks like a good sized pile. We quit here today when we were getting a little tired and the roads started greasing up where we were. 30*F all day.
That entire pile is 4 or 5 trailer loads. I can't recall right now. Probably almost enough for 1, 5 cord bay full.
Always nice to see the yield of a load of rounds. My HL score from May had me sectioning on site with the isocore to load and i split horizontal at storage. Dont blame you for going vertical there. Did you get the rest?
Yes. I forget what it actually is, but it makes a ton of black round berries. They stain anything in contact. Birds like to eat them and then they crap on things like my white truck. Lol. There's a few of these bushes, so I'm not worried. Plus I guarantee it will bounce back. They grow really fast.
Those apparently are elderberry bushes. They got here on my trailer when berries feel into it while it was at my friend's GF's house. They are super quick growing, just this particular bush is in my way for processing.
Well, I still have a couple of rows of wood in my shed for this year. Next year's wood is in the center bay, and I am still using the right bay for the splitter or tractor. That'll change when I get the garden shed replaced with a slightly bigger one. Until then I will let splits season outside until Spring,
Ok, finished what I have here. Showing all I have collected so far this Fall/ winter Ash , sugar maple, cherry, honey locust, red maple, some Norway maple and maybe something else I'm forgetting. From the back side. HL in the left pile Looky what I found.. A nail. I didn't hit this one with my saw, but if you find 1 nail, there's probably more.
Not yet. If it's there Monday I'll probably get it. I wanted to get it this weekend, but I need to process what I had.
She needs a bath though. Mines an 84 bought new by my dad. I put in a magnum 18 engine into it a couple years. The old kt17 series 2 lasted like 30 years. It's my weekly mower, but it's one heck of a firewood tractor, despite only being 2wd.
