The grapple makes it effortless to move these logs around. Some of these rounds are 20+” elm and ash. Pile about doubled in size just from these monster rounds. Learned you always put your saw down in a protected spot. Almost ran over it with the skidsteer. called it a day when I pulled a log out of the pile with 3 pieces of ready rod. I’ll work to get them yanked out and then get a metal detector to start testing/ checking the logs..
Those sleepers (red) carry two crossmembers (yellow) for what I’m bucking (green). keeps the chain out of the dirt, let’s me cut at a back saving height and supports all those 20+” logs too. The most crooked logs, I still need a wedge to keep the bar from pinching. I can even pick the largest logs back up with the grapple and use it to move the rounds off the table.
Yup what I’m saying is more of the logs marked with red might help… maybe not. Everybody does it differently.
I hear what you’re saying. The crossmembers are almost 12” in diameter. As good as laying on the ground. But any more in between and I can’t drive the skid steer in to put logs on or take them off.
Cool, whatever works for you! When I got logs dropped off the grapple truck I always asked for at least 4 sleepers. That way when I was cutting in the pile the pinch factor was less. Just a thought.
I’m not cutting it in the pile. The pile is to the right of me about 6’ away. I’m taking the logs off the pile because they are from 28ish” to as much as 12’ long. For me, cutting in that pile is dangerous so I move it out of the pile and drop it on two crossmembers for support and then stick the rounds behind. yellow is pile Red is location of the bucking table Green is stacked rounds.
I'm jealous, our neighbor just has a bunch of old junk farm equipment parked all over the place that he lets the brush (tree's) grow up around (and through)!
I have 3 extra right now...didn't get them incorporated into the stacks this year due to the garage project, among other things. More to come though, I think. So just exactly where are you going with this line of questioning there BSB?
