I came across this on Craigslist earlier this week and went to check it out today. Ended up buying it for $125. It’s going to need new tires/rims, and I’ll have to reinforce the frame first and foremost, but it’s nothing I can’t handle. The guy threw in a brand new LED light/wiring package, AND a brand new 3/4” 4x8 sheet of pressure treated plywood. It should serve me well for hauling a little bit of firewood, doing dump runs, etc. Getting it home was fun. 7 miles of backroads taking it slow, hoping not to get pulled over towing an unregistered trailer with no lights
Nice! I might suggest not building the deck over the wheels like the trailer was originally. It makes it much more difficult to change on the side of the road.
Those were my thoughts as well. The roadside tire change dilemma aside, the wheels I was looking at buying were significantly larger diameter. Building the deck over them wasn’t going to fit into my plans anyway. I’ll still have a 4’ wide trailer which is enough for me.
Nice score Eric! I've made a few homemade trailers. They definitely come in handy for all sorts of things.
Here's one I made out of a free boat trailer my old neighbor and friend gave me. I think it was 4x7 or so. Firewood rounds are 20" long. It was small, but handy. Used to have better pics, but they are gone. Re-enforced the frame, made fenders out of 1/4" plate, wood sides, and added lights after this pic. I've also redone some bigger trailers like this 6.5x10. It was really rough. Needed a entire new floor frame. New lights, new paint, new tires, etc. Hopefully it will give you some ideas or inspiration Part 1: Part 2:
