Dang just saw this. My guess was going to be 2351#s. Anybody want to guess what this weighs, 8' box. I haven't weighed it but know real close to how much of a cord it is.
First off I put Timbren 8,000#s overload springs on the truck as I was tired of riding on the bump stops all the time. I've unloaded a good 20 loads like this so far this year and it will yield two 10' rows 4' high. This pretty much translates 1:1 in after split wood. So 20/24ths = .83/cord, it is heavy. Mix of red and white Oak with a smattering of hickory and occasional cherry. Discounting the latter two since there isn't a lot, figure 5,000#s cord. My guess on this load is 4100#s. BTW, if anyone complains about "dirty wood", does this qualify" Unloading:
You have to account for the embedded rocks and dirt when guessing. Definitely would buckle my Tundra frame!
Just saw this thread now. I was right there with my guess. Good to know my weight guess-o- mometer is still calibrated. Now my pile of wood into stacked cordage internal meter is NOT very accurate I've found. I wish I had a scale close. All are way out of my way.
That's my kind of load. No point having an 8'bed and not using the whole thing. Those side boards are sweet! Sent you a pm too...
Those racks are made of 5/4 select Oak boards. They were spendy by are very strong and have held up well. The first thing I did prior to the racks was put in a serious head ache rack to protect the back window.
I broke my back years ago. It was -30 and a very small stick slowly tipped over and tapped the window. It looked like a bunch of frost fell off of it and I didn't think anything of it....until I went to get in and the seat was covered with glass. I wondered where the glass came from until I felt the wind coming through the back window. I pulled the back window out of my '83 and had a heck of a time putting it in my '91 with a hair dryer and string at -30. We finally got it in and cleaned up the glass. At least now I have a slider window. I was planning on making a dump bed, but steel prices went so high I'm not even considering it right now. Just a flat bed would do.
