That's what I'm planning. May get a friend to saw the big one and see what it looks like. We have a friend the could use some for knife handles.
Maybe TurboDiesel would like some to turn.

It's different, for sure. Where we could have several big ones staged on the ramps, 2 is all we can get on Blue Samson. About 24" is the biggest we've done, so far. But I LIKE it...

Got the box of splits from yesterday stacked this morning. That finished the racks in this area. Should be about 1.3 cords. Now to put a roof over them. 0114230931_HDR.jpg
Saved this knot/burl for my knife maker friend. 0114231056.jpg
Had time to buck and split another full box. We have another 1/2 cord rack to tuck this in. With the cherry trees I've seen broken off from logging, should be able to fill it. 0114231134a_HDR.jpg

Hey Jeff, just curious how you are constructing your plastic pallet “racks”? I would like to know what you do to hold the ends on so they hold the weight. Thanks, Ed

We use T post or rigid conduit/pipe...those have 1/2"...3/4" would be better. Drive in ground next to bottom pallet, where fork openings are...slide end pallets over posts.

Started on a 1/2 cord rack we had empty. That's the box full. Should have about 1 more box full to finish the cherry we have on the yard. 0116231017.jpg

"Wild cherry" or "black cherry" is Prunus serotina. Lots of other cherry trees around too, mostly called "sour cherry," "choke cherry" or "European cherry" that have been cultivated for fruits. Yes, wilted cherry leaves are extremely toxic as they can build up cyanide (not fresh leaves or completely dry leaves). Can kill full-grown cows. Definitely don't want them anywhere near livestock. However, they love to sprout up on the edge between pasture and forest, constant vigilance is in order .

If you mill cherry logs, stay away from the pith and several inches around it . That's where a lot of the tension (twist, cracks, etc.) live. Mr. Robert did a nice video on milling cherry.

We got almost a full box off the remaining logs, plus some small pieces to use for smoking. 0117231001.jpg
Got it stacked in the rack... 0117231041.jpg
Totaled a shade over 1.5 cords...
I'll look for the broken trees to finish filling that rack.
