The same group of guys have been camping together for 35+ years.

 

Same here. There was about 10in of snow/ice/frost. We didn't need snowshoes to go hiking in the woods.

I'm 3hrs south and we have zero snow on the ground.

Not much snow but plenty of snow making weather. I haven't been to Loon since the late 90's. Gorgeous area in general.

 

That's incredible and pretty darn special if you ask me. Traditions are awesome!!! I could use some of the peace and quiet right about now.....

Definitely a severe, subpar snow winter. While a few trails were open previously, as of Thursday, there were no snowmobile trails open in the entire state (officially, although some people go out anyway despite notifications from the state and clubs not to). I don't recall that ever happening before (where there is NO snowmobiling anywhere in the state going into mid-January). Locally, we had six inches of heavy snow Thursday night followed by rain and warm temps, but the trail groomers here are hoping to be out today now that temps are back below freezing. I haven't even bothered registering the sled this year. While the lack of snow and extreme cold is consuming less firewood to heat the house, I miss our deep snowpacks and cold winters. Also, while most people are looking at the lack of snow as a hindrance to tourism, while I do feel sorry for local businesses that rely on tourist dollars, I'm more concerned that we're going to experience a drought this year due to lack of snowmelt replenishing the ground water. I have a drilled well, but still...

Edit: for perspective, I'm less than 7 miles as the crow flies from where Mike was staying but it takes at least an hour to get there this time of year due to seasonal road closures.
