    Hello all,
The Wife and I are looking for some retirement property "I can build on" I do not want a house on it.
I would like to stay in the South east counties but were open for that.
Any way, were looking for up to 6 acres, "More if the price is right" but just a place to be quiet from the world. If anyone knows a good realtor or can point me in a good direction, we would be greatful.
I want to clear up some myths I've heard such as a "view" tax and some school tax issues.
My wife and I are looking at three states, and New Hampshire is one we haven't fully investigated yet.
I vacationed at lake Winnepaseakee many years back and found it soooooo beautiful and just didn't have the time to go back. The Wife and I will be making a trip up there for fall colors this year.
Thanks all for any input you can give, and you can also PM me if you want to throw in a Phone # or such.
Please send all your input, the more the merrier:)..
    Dave:D

This is who we have been using for 2 years now. We'll be pulling the trigger on a small vacation house with land in the next few years. We will then retire there in another 20 yrs. We have been looking in the wmnf area / presidential area. Good luck!

@WelderDave..I lived in Laconia back in the 70's and still have relatives there. One of my all time best friends has been in Real Estate there in the Lakes Region for at least 25 years, and also grew up there so he knows the area. I have one of his old cards, but will get updated info if you want it. Not sure if he does the southern counties, but he could hook you up in his area. Talked to him about 3 weeks ago (we talk 3-4 times a year) and even tried to get him on FHC! Let me know. (p.s. ..have not PM'd yet so I will have to learn!)

Sweet, Thanks very much! It isn't much different "in time span" than here, although we don't get the snow they get up there, we did get clobbered last year! I have a buddy that I was in the in the USN with, he's down around you way and he will not come any farther north, He's originally from this area. The cold has him spooked:p

    Hi Dave,

I live in VT but work in NH. Can definitely speak to the view tax - in NH there isn't one. Typical hype with newspapers trying to stir up controversy. If your property has a scenic view, and it's assessed at a higher rate because you can see the ocean/mountains/etc. rather than a landfill or transfer station across the road, it's assessed at a higher rate. :) Simple as that. I know the Assessor for the City of Lebanon pretty well, and I heard him explain this to the City Council during budget time. Debunked some myths for people.

I also know a gentleman who has served as the President of a statewide realtors organization in NH. Great guy. He could point you in the right direction as far as a realtor is concerned, depending upon where you're looking. I couldn't tell from your original post - are you looking beyond the southeastern part of the state?

I grew up in CT but moved here in 2002. Great part of the country, you're making a good decision. If you are open to other parts of the state, I'd recommend the Upper Valley that straddles the VT/NH border along the CT River. Beautiful country, and real estate would be more reasonable than down by Boston. Great hospital in Dartmouth Hitchcock, close to the White Mountains, just great all-around quality of life. Maybe you've seen @Oldhippie's post on his trip to the Woodstock factory in West Leb? http://firewoodhoardersclub.com/for...hats-up-in-lebanon-hint-woodstock-visit.4390/ That's where we are.

    Hope this helps.

Navy Federal Credit Union is partnered with Coldwell Banker and offer cash back at closing for using their realtors..... Might put some cash back in your pocket... That's what we did last year.. https://www.navyfederal.org/membership-benefits/offers-discounts/realtyplus.php

APR on a 30 year VA loan is 3.81% right now.. not bad..

Yes and no, I'm still in the looking phase, I had the chance on some land up in Perry Maine…. Dam that place is cold and snowy:eek:. I'm not done looking, I have Family in Gloucester, Mass and some in Rockport, But I'm not living in Mass, personal reasons;). One thing I did leave out, I would like to be about an Hour drive to a shore/beach or somewhere I can fish., I need to see the ocean at least once a week…. Sounds nuts but:loco: …. I gotta fish.

Sean, I spent 4 years in CT, Groton / Mystic area and loved it, but I was working / an Instructor at the USCG Academy. I really didn't take the time and smell the roses, if you know what I mean. I also spent 2 years in Newport, RI. Very nice place Also! Summers were nice, To wet and rainy in winter for me.. It was snow and slush, snow and slush, rain slush, freeze, rain, etc…..

Thanks! I think that applies on a home, I'm just looking for land right now. I don't want a house on it, I designed a house "years" back, I'm going to build on it:cool:. Most banks won't give much to bare land unless you have a lot to put down.

Not crazy at all. My former boss was the same, actually took a job on Nantucket for a couple of years just to get out on the ocean as much as possible. Cost of living drove him out of there though.

A bonus to looking in the southeast section of NH is those ocean waters will keep the really cold weather at bay a bit. Not where I live - I've seen -30F at my house.
