Consumer Product Safety Commissioner Richard Trumka, Jr., told Bloomberg in an interview that a ban was "on the table." "We need to be talking about regulating gas stoves, whether it's drastically reducing emissions or banning gas stoves entirely," Trumka told a consumer safety group last month. A ban "is a powerful tool in our toolbox and it's a real possibility here, particularly because there seem to be readily available alternatives already in the market."

Trumka's statements come as more research surfaces on the health impacts of gas-burning stoves. A December study found that 13% of childhood asthma cases nationwide can be blamed on indoor use of gas stoves. A previous study from a decade ago found that a gas stove at home increased a child's risk of asthma by 42%.

    Dementia risks
Cooking on these stoves emits nitrous oxide and fine particulates, which can build up in minutes to levels deemed unsafe by the Environmental Protection Agency. Fine particulates have also been linked with higher rates of dementia and Alzheimer's disease, according to a research article this month from the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Even when gas stoves are off, meanwhile, they emit large amounts of methane, a potent greenhouse gas that is dozens of times more damaging for the climate than carbon dioxide. Link to the article is below:

Seems a lot being connected to an electrical grid that is suspect at best.

Also haven't seen many new power plants coming online, this all going to solar?

Have to question where this is all headed....

    Petty simple, decidedly downhill.

As it stands, the grid is incapable of a heavy sustained load.

When you turn on the stove and charge your car at the same time what happens?
Better yet let's all turn on our new oven and plug in the elektric" cars at the same time ; then run outside and watch the wires melt off the poles.

My question is - where is all this electricity coming from? Nuclear, coal or diesel plants?

What about the Houses that don't currently have the needed range electrical connection? Are they going to take more tax money to subsidize the change over from gas to electric?

It's going to create a black market for used stoves like whan they first made the federal flight regulations on toilets in the 90s , I remember stories of people buying toilets and bringing them in from Mexico to get higher flush toilets in this country. Not sure why they just didn't buy used ones here and replace everything??

I mean I really don't think so? Some states and cities currently have the ban. They banned 100w and 60w lightbulbs...they banned toilets that flush more than X gallons. They make CAFE standards for auto makers.

What I do see happening is them having exceptions for commercial kitchens with approved vent hoods installed with inspections of some sort of frequency certifying their working properly.

When ever they finish it there is a new Nuke plant just down the road from me being built. Been under construction for like 10 years or so I guess?

100% I have heard it's proposed up to an $800 credit to swap from gas to electric. Of course this is hypothetical.

Just like when they gave tax credits for wood stoves and installs. They gave it for new chimneys for them as well.

I really can't see this getting too far. Electric cook stoves and ovens SUCK! You'll never see any professional chefs using electric for a good reason.

I agree, especially in current offerings. That can change if they give them more power. But like I said in my message I believe there will be an exception for commercial use and have stipulations like correct approved and inspected hood system.

Heck they banned CCA for wood treatment for consumer wood consumption. But they knew it was good and worked and was proven so the feds still allowed it for commercial wood treatment purposes. So you can't get a dect built out of CCA wood but we in the forest industry could still treat power poles dock piles and marine plywood with it. I'm a little out of the wood treatment type stuff and they may not even use CCA anymore possibly but not because it's illegal, but either because something better or possibly cheaper has been developed or basically anywhere it's used is a hazardous waste dump according to EPA and has all kinds of rules to follow.

But my California and New York trump your Ohio.

Both dictate what happens in the good 'ole USA anymore. Until we as a collective override what beliefs of these two states we are in for a world of hurt.

I'm not much into cards. I also support states rights. Just pointing out things are different depending on where you reside.
