Sorry Griz, not in my opinion. Years ago I was looking for a garden tractor/mower. Looked at everthing on the planet. Could not figure out what to do, called my father in Nebraska to ask his opinion. He said that is easy, what do you see in the fields in Nebraska? I replied Deere and IH, he said 'there is your answer, IH does not make a garden tractor'! I bought and still have the Deere 318!

I still got a IH garden tractor I use to pull the tiller. Has a 44" deck.

How old is it? I bought the 318 in 1984! Perhaps my dad was in error, however based on what he said I bought the Deere!

A real rearend used back in the day, ring and pinon. Also a real clutch and shaft drive. I swore I would never change another clutch in it though.
Tim I want to say this one is 79. But need to check and see when IH sold out to C.C.C.

Your dad was right for your time of buying. IH sold it out in 1981.

You did good. The 318 is a classic!

IH ceased to build Cub Cadet garden tractors after '81 IIRC.

My bro swears by the deere's. Coarse I think he has all that fancy stuff like power steering etc. He had one of the later 80's 3 cyl c.c.c. ones that was nice too, before he went deere. I thought it was nice too.

MM you may know this info I was looking for on my site. What years was the JD L118 made? I only found 05
New did they cost around $1999?
    Good bad info?
Going rate on a like new not much used one?

I have 3 riders now I mow with and 1 rider for tilling. But I think I can get this thing right. 20hp 42" and thinking back up and move to #2 slot.

Come get it out of my driveway and it's yours, lol. :p

2004-2005, with mechanical twins produced under various model numbers to this day.

For a mint condition example with less than 100 hours on it, $1200 would be top dollar. Down rate it from there. Make 100% sure the trans is good. Should provide decent torque even when fully warmed up. A K46 trans on its last legs will run good cold but lose power as the oil inside heats up. (10-15min)

Stihl actually made a tractor in 1949. It would be cool to find one of those in a barn somewhere!
