That topic has been covered so many times over the years. Most will agree, square is faster, more durable and much smoother cutting. Julians vid is a good one: I made umpteen vids but never displayed times on the screen, so data isn't logged.
You know that thing spells trouble don't you. Fun.. addicting.... bigger saws..... and the list goes on. You'll see exactly what I am talking about. I guarantee it"
I’m planning on using it to make Timbers for a splitting shelter, bucking table at the moment. once I get that situated, plan is to add a bandsaw mill. There’s a bit of cottonwood and elm on the horizon along with this ash available to me…
Watch out! That is how I started. Chainsaw Mill...leads to bigger saws....then band-saw mill.....add a tractor....put a grapple on tractor.....install weight box on tractor to offset log weight on the tractor and the list just goes on. Don't say I didn't warn you!!
Not to mention, when load of nice logs shows up then you have the internal struggle of "firewood, or lumber, firewood or lumber?!"
I used to look at anything I saw as firewood. Once the milling bug bit me things changed. I now look at it as mill logs first. Anything not worthy of becoming boards becomes firewood. There also is plenty of slab-wood from the mill as well. It more or less just falls into place on it's own. You'll see!
Oh what a surprise I have in store for folks now…. ETA…. A teaser… looking forward to that first load. This was started a year ago already.
y’all are hOOORible… Package that came together unexpectedly…. I leave for Ft Recovery on Sunday, they are running the trailer and 773 through the shop while I’m gone and I get to pick them up next weekend. then I take two weeks and go down and clean things up for starting to bring in the wood and cutting the trees offered to me into the lengths I want to be hauled. sounds like I’ll have a bit of a stock pile this summer to start splitting. I really like the idea of having the vertical lift arms. 773 G Turbo two-speed. 17.9 gpm aux hydraulics. So the same thing as the S185. the controls are there, you could wire a processor to the machine and power a log table/ processor and conveyor with it. Midsota 14” 14,000 dump. Let’s me haul the 773 easily too. hi, my name is Jon… And I’m a hoarder…
Family emergency… He’s still going to do some for me, but there’s stuff I want to do with 20’ logs and he’s only got rails to about 14’. we had a winter storm come through this past week too that dropped 14” of snow on us. We’re digging out from that at the moment.
When we build our retirement home, we’d like to have a gable entry way like this. with a chainsaw mill. I can scrounge the next couple years to source logs to make these Timbers. it’s about 22’ from left to right.
So our daughters are big into helping dad. (I’m divorced but they call their step mom, mom.). They are both mid 20’s the oldest one has always been quick to get right in with me and help out. the younger one works for the local Doosan (bobcat) in town and operates a forklift in the factory. so texted them and said “looky looky”… now I have to teach both of them how to operate this thing. my youngest sent me this.. You’ve even corrupted my girls…
