My Boss ordered a Kitchen Queen 480 cookstove from Obadiah's. His friends swear by them, -awesome stove they say. Anyone have any experience with them?

Since I'm not rushing into a purchase, I looked up the smaller version- the 380. If I did my math right, it has a 3.1 CF fire box, and lists 10-14 hr. burns. Not worried about that claim right now. But, it appears to offer everything I'd ask of a secondary heater/ appliance.
    Thoughts?

I've read good things about them. It's pretty big, and has some big clearances. Do you have the room? Do you need an EPA stove where you're at?

I just took a quick peek at the KQ, big stove. Had any thoughts of an Esse?

You know that one of our members owns Obadiah's Stoves, don't you? PM Woody Chain and he'll give you the lowdown on all of the cookstoves....

Thanks Scotty, I didn't know that. As soon as the 480 shows up, I'll crawl all over it, then give Woody a shout.

I will say, if it looks like a good fit, I'd like to build a kitchenette around it. That would keep me broke and out of trouble for a while.

BTW he has some forums on his site as well......check out Cookstoves.net. Tell 'em Scotty sent ya!

Woody is a first class man, right to the core. If there were more men like him in our country, we'd be in a LOT better shape than we are right now!

Huh, the 480 will be here (at the shop) on Wed. I'll have to do the initial inspection.....damm the bad luck.
I talked with a nice gentleman from Obadiahs, got all the shipment details for the 480, then switched it into my request for a 380. Whewwwww...... I got schooled like I was a newbie, from vent pipe to angles of pipe, to wood M/C, to clearances and burning techniques. It was actually amusing, and the guy was sincere, but 90% would have gone over the head(s) of anyone cold-calling them. It was a cool conversation. As soon as I could get in- "I have a BKK and 2-3+ years seasoning", he was like- oh, OK, you seem to know what you're doing.- I wish I could have recorded it, he was so sincere in the requirements for good burning, the guy was great.:smoke:
I'll let you know my thoughts after Wednesday.

The only time those types of conversations happen to me are when I come here.
Seems like everyone living in this area already knows everything they need to know from way back in the day, and has no need to learn.
To quote Mr T....."I pity da' fool". That was Mr. T, right?
My wife has eyed a wood cookstove too, until she saw the prices.
    We await the pics.

Have I got a deal for you PD...20 year old sweetheart (still in production and retails for $6500) recently removed to keep the insurance man happy. Needs some attention but didn't see a whole lot of use as it was at the camp.

Greetings guys, sorry, been a busy wildfire season and I've been on dispatch. Back for now.

As always, all you "Hoarders" get a special discount at my stores, just mention "Scotty Overkill" and get an extra discount, could be 5 bucks, could be 5000, depends on what you need.
If it burns we generally deal in it, everything from large Biomass/Boiler/Solar Systems, Stoves, Fireplaces, Furnaces and Wood Cookstoves to parts for your pellet stoves and even fighting wildfires.

As far as the Kitchen Queen, there is no better cookstove made, period, yet.............I'm a werkin on her, but it's a secret.....so shhhhhhhh.........
With the Queen there is a 100% money back guarantee if she is not as Royal as we say she is. I have sold thousands and never had anyone yet take me up on my offer.
There is no other wood cookstove dealer that makes that offer. There are not many that can sell the Queen either.

So I would say that the Boss made a great choice and here is why.
    1. 14 hr burns with a KQ 380 18 hrs with a KQ 480. Tightest cookstoves on the market.
    2. 800lbs KQ 380, 900lbs KQ 480. Heaviest cookstoves on the market, thick boiler plate American Steel.
    3. Smoke travels around the oven from below, does not try to defy gravity like other cookstoves when you engage oven, food bakes like in a convection oven.
    4. Convection/Radiant heating design uses physics to its advantage as hot air rises, stove is on legs so the cool air near the floor can be draw into stove and heated, without blowers or electricity. Does not overheat the kitchen like other radiant cookstoves do. Heats very evenly and effectively.
    5. Commercial Duty Door Gaskets last 10 years and seal better than cheaper rope gaskets.
    6. Porcelain finish inside oven and on exterior of stove make it easy to keep looking good.
    7. Glass Door optional on both oven and firebox.
    8. Two sizes fit a wide variety of applications.
    9. One piece specialized alloy cooktop will not warp or crack like cast iron or stainless steel.
    10. Best guarantee in the industry.
    11. Best fit and finish in Anabaptist Stoves.
    12. Best value for the money.

I will be back in the office more often as "Stove Season" heats up and "Wildfire Season" cools down.

BK, I was in the house of someone on another site who has one and has one of the first produced I think; I will simply say this, "IT ROCKS". The other man is the Fisher Guru on the other site and I'm sure he don't mind talking about it. I was at his home in PA last winter checking out some of his "super cool" limited Fishers. His wife had just made a coffee cake when I got there and his house was at perfect temp inside.
I don't know much more, but from what I saw, I would buy one if I had the room:cool:.

Woody and his team at Obadiah's are FIRST CLASS. His reputation in the stove world is second to none and I'm glad to have him here for advise! Any serious Cookstove enthusiast should check out his Cookstove forums....

@Woody Chain, that is a very kind gesture offering a discount to FHC members......that shows the calibre of person you are.....Welcome back, stay safe! Those pictures are AMAZING.

I will have a cookstove eventually, and I'll guarantee I will be buying it from Woody.....

damm, I forgot that I forgot to describe that 480. I'll do so tonight because it was nice. If I can get a 380 to work in an area with a 73" ceiling height, I'm almost assuredly going to do it.

Unreal.....any chance you could put a forest fire thread in the "everything else" category? That way everyone can see it....not everyone will see them in this cookstove thread.....

Amazing pics Woody. I can't even imagine a fire like that.....

Great pics. Woody, got a few of my own like that-( CDF from the late 80's-early 90's). 1K+ initial attacks.
What's the best way to contact you these day's? Want to talk about that potential 380.
    Thanks, JB
