There's the chronicly sick, and then theres the hypochondriac who is out because every spec of dust is causing sneezing, rashes, itching.... Lived with one of those once.

Covid changed the work culture. Now there's a lot less tough it out and get your butt in here and more stay home so you recover faster and don't infect the rest of your coworkers.
I've worked places with very strict attendance policies. Always thought they were cruel to legitimately sick people and those that work closely with them. But there's plenty of people that would abuse liberal attendance policies. There's no winning this argument for either side

I've always hated when people came to work sick. It's completely selfish. Nobody likes to be sick, so stay the f v ck home when you are sick so you don't infect the whole damm office. I never had kids, so co-workers with those little petri dishes are constantly infecting the office with whatever they brought home to their parents. I have always stayed home when sick and I expect others to do the same for me when they are sick. It's called respect.

The problem is some cannot afford to miss work. Either because of missed pay or strict attendance policies causing disciplinary action. I've been in that situation where I couldn't afford a day without pay. I went in and stuck it out.

I used to get so pizzed when people would show up to work sick. Stay home and don't spread it around! Where I work now, they used to have signs all over the place that if you are sick, stay home (this was pre-Covid too). Those signs are probably still there, but since I WFH, I don't see them so don't know for sure.

Cancer, or MS flares or whatever, are a different matter - those aren't contagious. If they feel well enough, and/or need to be out and about because it gets their mind off their situation, more power to them.

Best thing I ever did. People who have never changed jobs or always been a W2 are always commenting, “it’s like you never work. You’re always home.”

and what about the 20ish days a month I’m not around at all?

I understand staying home when you have the flu, etc... but a cold? Folks who don't want someone to come to work when they have a cold, do you still go to the store, out to eat, socialize with friends, etc... during cold season?
If someone has the brown bottle flu should they get a pass for being "sick."

Yeah, so you then infect 10 others who may also be in the exact same boat as you. You just made another argument as to why to stay home when sick, however, you are looking at it from a me, me, me, POV and who cares about everyone else as long as I'm OK.

yep, same as where I work. You are strongly encouraged to stay home when sick (obviously only if it's contagious). Coming from a businesses POV, why would they want one person showing up sick which will then infect many others and in turn affect job performance.

I now also WFH 2 days a week. One of the days I was gone a co-worker emailed me and said how another co-worker had brought in their petri dish a couple days before Xmas and he was sick as heck, coughing the whole time he was in the office. How smart is that right before Xmas?!

Of course, however going to the store is a bit different than working with someone in the same office 10 hours a day. Chance encounter over an hour in a very large volume vs working with the person in an office setting for 10.

I'm not much of a social person. My friends are all from HS and are 3 hours from me.
