Tree company came past my house yesterday. Took down some trees that were way past due. Some of em worth keeping. Now that 2018 is over it’s all fair game keeping the decent stuff. I heard some guy stopped and wanted some. Absolutely,,,,, but first, I’m a grabbin some LMAO Too muddy to get near the processing area. Staging area #1 will do. This red oak is still there waiting. Not enough traction to drive out of that hole with it. I’ll either cut it or use the trailer.
That log arch is working nicely. Glad you're able to start hoarding again. Is that ash with the bark coming off?
Yep that’s Ash. Not much of that in my area. A few scattered around the periphery of the property that being the corner of the property line. I really thought those trees would be totally shot but the one I took still looks good enough. Possibly one more stick down there worth keeping. A little White Oak and the red. White Oak is fairly rare on my property too. Those two are on someone else’s property who have told me take anything I want. They don’t burn. Arch is still holding up. Could use some more cushy tires for the woods. When they go on I’ll have to start cutting metal to keep the center of gravity low. It’s a little high already.
Good stuff there Joe. Nice to see you hoarding again. More fun to get it roadside than than from the woods huh?
Well the stuff in the woods I know isn’t going anywhere without me. I’m more worried about the town picking this up soon. One of the neighbors has been hounding them to get this job done. For all I know the town may just get serious about it.
Ya snooze ya lose. Ive learned that the hard way. PITA for me sometimes when i find unexpected scores. Seems BL gets priority. Is there a lot more there? How much have you retrieved?
Pic #4 is where I left it for today. White oak and Ash. Pics got out of order on me. Most of the smaller stuff has enough punk I won’t bother with it. Maybe one more Ash log and that red I left. Think I’ll grab that tomorrow rain or shine.
Great score on the Ash! I’ve been surprised by how good standing dead can be, even after being dead for quite some time.
I'd think that despite your mania, priority would be whatever scrounge location that's in the most jeopardy.
X2. Ive cut it with no bark and its solid, seen it still standing with bark on and almost worthless. Interesting how and why that happens.
Yes. The BL is "safely" tucked away untouched. The current TP is priority as i need SS wood. In the past ive had them that i thought were safe only to find them gone went i went back weeks later. Been trying to process wood before bringing more rounds in. I have a toppled stack of chestnut oak rounds that ive been undecided on where to stack. I think it will get split smaller and dispersed with bundle wood.
Hadnt occurred to me yet. Maybe I’ll save the white oak stick for that. Only lumber I need is crossties for my pallet pens. White oak is about as good as it gets for that. Brad hooked me up with some and I had some milled before winter so I’m gOod for awhile but,,,,,,that hoarding thing Landing is a small chunk of poor foundation and poorer cement floor left from part of Ye old cow barn. Dry ground where dry ground is rare
I havent figured it out yet either. There is more dead ash in my future. Property across the street fRom my sisters house has a few. They’re looking good but who really knows. We never cut wood on that property. Was a house there we rented out and the guy used that section of forest for his heat source. It’s first on my woods list. Sisters over there making a mess with her chainsaw already. Can’t get her to understand she needs to leave sticks long for the arch. I don’t pick up four foot sticks LOL
Went back and got the red oak out. I cut it to lighten the load and get it out of there. May be a few pieces left. I’m not grabbing everything. Some has enough punk on the outer layers I’ll leave it there. Still should be one good ash truck to snag too. I remember now why I no longer mill trees from that property. Owner loves putting up no trespassing signs using stainless roofing nails. Found some on the red oak. I milled a big White Oak from there a couple years ago. Got bit. Stainless effen nails
