I'm curious what the service life of a tote is when handled that way
I was wondering what the service life of a tote would be when handled that way. I would also like to know where he gets them.

Ive never seen any either. Large food production plants may give them away. Just an Internet rumor :)

The shop I work at for job #2 has a few that are/were used for waste oil. I could have them once they are empty but have held off.
I don't want to deal with the plastic bladder and the mess that comes with waste oil and disposal of the bladder and any leftover oil.

Not something I have to have but a couple would be nice.
Just have to keep an eye out and fingers crossed.

I snagged three free ones when a farmer left them on the side of the road. I went back to get the other two and they were gone.

Cut the bladder in half diagonally then throw some saw chips in to soak up the lil bit of leftover oil (you can get almost all of it out if positioned right in the summer sun) you can make some kick butt fire starters with those chips then! Those bladders cut that way make excellent roofs for the totes full of wood then...
