I have had all of those at least once & all were very good cigars, I haven’t had the CAO & probably never will.
This is perfect Dave! My guidelines are just guidelines, because it was just how the idea came in my head. I realize if you guys have been smoking for a long time, the list could be vast and hard to narrow down. I've never had a Perdomo, but I have been watching their Youtube a bit lately and was wanting to try them. Interestingly enough, I bought a Connecticut sampler off of CB Free Fall and there are Perdomo Reserve Champagne Epicures in there. So I will be able to try that out. A lot of people mention that cigar. It must be good. I also like Connecticut's, so that's a bonus. The Mistakes are on my list and look like a good cigar that doesn't break the bank. Never had an Arturo Fuente, but I see that's where the "Short Story" comes from. Jim just posted about one of them. I bought the Tabak Especial Red Eye a couple weeks ago, because you guys seemed to like them. Haven't had one yet though. The Legends were on my list after you mentioned them the other day. I just like Drew Estate's. La Palina's sound really good too. Never heard of them before. Never had a Rocky Patel, but I did buy a sampler off of CB and they have the Vintage 90 maduro in it. So I will be able to try that out too when it gets here. Never had Olivia's either. I don't mind a little buzz, but I have a time and place when and where I don't mind it. Which is why I don't smoke many cigars during the week while I'm working. I've got a physical job and don't care to have a body buzz while I work. The Monte I smoked today buzzed me, but that was fine, because I was sitting on my duff, watching a movie. Hanging out, I don't mind it as much, but if I'm doing stuff, I don't care for a buzz. Enter in my cigarillos. They don't get me buzzed.
I cut my teeth on Arturo Fuente... I still enjoy them periodically...I've met the Carlito, when he came to the Outlaw Cigar shop... The King B is a go too, its a sit down and relax cigar... but all of the AF's that I've have been solid. If you looking for a cigar to put in the humidor and keep for a year or so... try a Opus X... They really age well...
I've been watching a lot of stuff on aging and it sounds pretty interesting and definitely want to try to age some of the boxes I get. So the Opus are on my list, as well as the King B's and Hemingway's. Only ones I've ever aged are some Platinums and the knockoff Monte No. 2's. Some of my Nubs are a year or more now too.
My top three... boy thats tuff to narrow it down... I'll put some honorable mentions too... 2 that always have a home in the humidor... 1) Diesel Shorty's - Consistent, Good Flavor and a relatively short smoke.. $$ is relatively low... 2) Montecristo Media Noche - 7x58 ... Long Powerful Smoke and good flavor... saved for a good sit down session... $$ splurge funds but worth it periodically 3) Rocky Patel Edge Habano Toro - (blue tip) Consistent ... Good smoke and Flavor .. $$ is relatively low... Honorable Mention: Rocky Patel Edge Torpedo Maduro - Consistent, Deep Flavors and Maduro Vega 5 Triple A - A relatively short smoke, Good Flavor, and consistent Rocky Patel ITC Emerald Toro - Cause its different ... Good smoke.. Flavor (suppose to be a lighter smoke, but maybe in the nicotine, but a very flavorful)... Its my newest one to keep in the humidor... The boss turned me onto them... Now always have a few of these in my humidor: AF King B - a knock out sit down cigar... consistent, good amount of smoke and good flavor. La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero - It packs a punch... So another sitdown and not on a empty stomach... Rush Limbaugh go to smoke
Good list Chevy. I've never had any of the brands, but Montecristo and I haven't had that Monte. So I put them all on my list. I did order Diesel sampler from CB. So, I will be able to try them. I thought I remembered a couple of ya mention them, which is why I ordered it. Looks like I need to look into Rocky Patel more. You guys seem to like them. The ITC Emerald sounds very interesting. Thanks.
One of the things I like about cigars, is how vast the industry is. A guy could probably spend decades (at least at the rate I smoke) smoking and trying different brands and still not come anywhere close to smoking them all. It's a good thing, but can also be a negative, if a guy considers how many good cigars are out there, that he maybe just hasn't heard of. How many a guy just over looks. Hence, the reason I asked for your favorites. I'm kinda on a quest to have a well rounded selection, to fit specific times of the day, mood, if I've ate, where I'm at and so forth. Thanks for your recommendations fellas! Any of you others that pop in from time to time, feel free to jump in!
I got to rooting around through my samplers last night and looked at the one I got with my box of Tabak Red Eyes and it actually had a CI Legends in it. It also had 2 Tabak Fuentes, 2 Tabak Red Eyes, 2 Kuba Blondies and and 2 more Kubas, don't remember exactly on the last one. So I decided to smoke a Legends before bed. I liked it. I liked the size of it too, the Lonsdale. I'm going to get some of the Connecticut wrpped Legends next.
Evening fellas. I got my 2 Oasis Caliber IV's today and an actual ashtray, for the garage. I usually just use these small, must be some sort of dip bowl, or something, in the house. Now I'm right up town! Lol Doing a salt test now, so I know I'm good. My other one was 4% under. Which explains why I was having a hard time getting my humidity up. The 2 new ones have a 4% difference out of the box, so far.
If they aren’t able to be changed/adjustable, I just used a black marker to mark on them the difference +/- . Most of mine are Humicare blue digital’s. I snagged them for $6-$8 on CB. I used Boveda calibration packs on mine. Most of the humicare’s were 3-4% low out of the box & not adjustable. I have some of these also, they are adjustable.
