90 octane zero ethanol, red armor at 36:1 for everything including ported saws and plain old ope.

Lately I’ve been so busy I haven’t been able to run equipment often enough. Going to try TruFuel with red armor mixed in for the saws that I can’t run as often.

Y'all are a bunch of total morons!!!!!.....
.....I think that's the proper way to jump onto an oil thread, right?

    I'm only kidding....please don't anybody have a fit.

Strange how this is such a volatile subject some places....

I was always a plain old pump gas and whatever mix oil at 50:1 kinda guy. I have thousands of hours running saws professionally, and have never burned one up from the gas or oil I used.

I recently started using red armor mixed @ 40:1 with e free gas, because I've been reading too many oil threads....but now I think I probably need to switch to dominator @32:1......or Lucas.....or Husqvarna.....or sheffers.
    ...or vp......or......lol.

I don't doubt there are plenty of good reasons for what a lot of guys recommend, but unfortunately it's too hard to filter through all the bickering to come to any kind of general consensus on the subject.

I'm thinking of trying regular pump gas and lard next.......because I raise hogs and we've got lot of extra lard......and why the heck not.... after all, I'm sure our pigs are jasco rated, or whatever it is....

My two cents, and an attempt at humor......

I use a lot of different mixes milling saws get 25:1 work saws get 40:1 my new 592 is running canned fuel (vp or tru fuel) at 50:1 I have seen so much damage by ethanol fuel on equipment coming through my shop I do not use any fuel with ethanol in my equipment . I am sure that most of the members here use more fuel than the average person that comes in my shop and the key to ethanol fuel is keeping it fresh . I have always used synthetic oils in my saws I started using it with racing Kart engines and I just kept on using it . As to using outboard oil it is usually formulated for water cooled engines but I am sure there are exceptions just check the label Thats my 2 cents JB

30:1, 40:1, 50:1 who needs all that action. It’s just one cup of used motor oil(doubles as bar oil too) per gallon of old gas. Eezy peezy. It’s an old timer trick and never has it caused any problems.

My opened up daily work saws get 32-36:1 depending on how steady my hand is at the time, Motul works good for me. My small, I feel like a weener today, weekend saws get Stihl orange bottle about 40-50:1.

Best answer material right there. You might have to pre-heat that lard in cold weather though & it might draw bears & wolves in certain areas…

No need to add the oil to the gas….. the saw has 2 tanks, one for oil and one for gas, fill them both and the saw mixes them together on its own

1:1. I go through a lot of plugs, but it helps with mosquitoes. ; )

40:1 is my go go in my two stroke equipment.

I only use Stihl full synthetic at 50:1 and if you do anything else your saws will burn up and you'll be banned from FHC! :hair::rofl:

After watching some pretty intensive testing and talking to a few saw porters that have made my saws just absolutely rip, I run Red Armor, Dolmar or Amsoil at 32:1 with E free 90 octane fuel. Some saws sit for a few months between use and others get run very steadily. No failures and no carb issues so far. I've read so many oil threads over the years that I'm full up. I'll trust the guys that I know personally that have put a lot of time and effort into this subject. Ethanol fuel and oil designed for water cooled engines are both a no go in my saws and other small equipment. Use this information at your risk.

    That's funny! Actually, sad, lol.

I use Red Armour 40:1. If nothing else, a key advantage is that the mix is red color.

    Let me clarify…

I mix 50:1 because I try to stick with ethanol free gas. All the oil containers I buy are sized to just pour into the appropriate sized gas cans for 50:1.
pretty sure I don’t have millions to support me otherwise, but when engineers put the spec of 50:1 in the manual…

Years ago, there was an article in pickup magazine that showed the harm of ethanol in small engines. Got me away from putting ethanol in them ever since.

now modify a saw and do a bunch of race tuning to it, I can see going to 32:1.

Yeah, cuz back in the late 70/early 80, the 50:1 mix was all epa driven.

You used 50:1 oil back then? What brand was that?
Most of the saws I've seen, or owned, from that time frame say to use somewhere in the neighborhood of 16:1, and its usually just motor oil.
I agree that 50:1 is EPA driven...if not for them pushing the OEM's to lower emissions they'd run more oil...why would they not, sell more oil! And I very much suspect they make more money on oil than selling the saws!

Used to run VP at 50/1. Switched to ethanol and Stihl oil at 50/1 because I was running a saw almost everyday. Mixed one gallon at a time.
Recently my sister bought five gallons of VP but with no oil. She messed up and gave it to me. I dumped in a bottle of red armor which would make it 40/1.
So far I’ve only used it in the 462. I can easily feel more resistance when starting it. Rope pulls like it’s frozen oil. Even after bringing it in the house it starts with more resistance. Smokes at start up too, which is ok by me. Just weird that I can feel such a difference in the rope.
