I'm not saying This is the answer or anything just noting my old Fire View stove had a giant 6 cubic feet firebox

 

Well, just came back from a nice ride looking at Christmas lights. Weather weenies are still caterwauling about how unsafe it is to go anywhere and the Christmas week blizzard that'll be talked about for generations. In all reality we got about 6" of snow in 2 1/2 days and it was windy for a day and a half. Not a real uncommon occurrence in the winter. Roads are very drive able except where they keep putting salt and it re freezes. Wind has let up a bunch. It is absolutely beautiful outdoors with the fresh snow and light wind. Temp at 17F still makes the snow a bit squeaky which I love. Some areas nearer the lake got more snow, but nothing massive. This is without a doubt one of the prettiest Christmas Eves that I can remember. Worst part is they're talking upper 40's and rain by next weekend. I hate it when the snow doesn't last. I'll throw some more Oak in the boiler in a bit.

 

Oh yeah. That would do it. Just a little different fireview make and model.

 

It sure was a big hype before the storm Ridiculously so, but I gotta say that wind was nasty, I had to change the tire about 11 o'clock last night just had it to the tire shop got it fixed two weeks ago, don't know what happened with the tire yet exactly , must have been totally flat I backed up and it popped off the rim .
But the wind was a real beatch.
I don't know how much snow we got right here 2-3 inches I think, and they were saying maybe 15

 

No question about that. Wind was very un enjoyable yesterday and early today. I was waiting to get snowed and or blown in for the weekend, turns out the biggest issue was the thin layer of ice under the snow from it starting out wet. Some bad visibility from blowing snow, but certainly not bad enough to cancel Christmas.

 

The winds have been fairly constant since yesterday (hellacious!). It's 8 outside, 72 inside and I am feeding the insert a steady diet of beach and red oak. Wishing y'all a peaceful night.

 

Yeah we had a Christmas get together yesterday , the two lane black top was slippery, nothing I haven't drove on before I came upon a big open field had to slow down to 15 20 for about a half a mile could barely see 10 feet, hey it's winter.

It’s as cold as it’s going to get here, at 9 degrees. I just reloaded the stove with white oak on a deep bed of black locust coals.

Wind is still blowing and snowing as hard as it has in this whole storm. We must have at least 18”. Probably 20 +. They are saying the totals for my area will be 24-36” by the time it’s over. Early this evening I scraped the concrete pad down with the tractor loader in front of barn after I moved all the snow behind barn for my wife’s horses. About an hour and a half later, maybe two, there was six more inches on it. Holy smokes. I’ve shoveled more than enough for my liking!

 

Travel ban for three Counties along the river/lake here. Things got bad. Lots of people in ditches. Big snowplows turned over in ditches because they could not see and got over on shoulder too far. Whiteouts a plenty. So then they pulled them off the road. Many travelers rescued from their cars and slept in Fire Stations on cots or the concrete floor. They wanted to get to family for Christmas. Bad storm. Bad timing.

We must have 18” + and it’s falling fast now. Some places will end up with 24-36. Some near Watertown will get 48” + !

That's kinda what they predicted here. That's the real deal and very dangerous for sure. Snowing that hard it's time to change plans and stay put for sure.

 

We didn’t get horribly cold, only down to 6*. No snow but we topped out at an inch of ice on everything. About 13:00 this afternoon the wind shifted to a southwest blow and now we’re at 37* with decent but not heavy rain. Ice is cracking and falling like crazy. Still burning plain ole Doug fir. Water flowing on and under the ice, has us holed up here until that mess clears itself.

yeah they just made a big deal out of big predictions here that didn't pan out, if it was like your situation there I would have just stayed home.
Here they did have semi trucks getting blown around crashing out on the freeways

 

12 and still windy. Low of 2 tonight. Got the boiler loaded with oak and hickory.

 

Camber now my Hearthstone One may be a good candidate for what your looking for in a stove.It's a pre EPA stove that gives me 14 hours of usable heat.The firebox is about 4 cubic ft.A gentleman in Vermont rebuilds them.Twelve years ago he charged me $ 1200.00 plus shipping.Very beautiful stove I'll find his number if your interested.Best stove I've ever witnessed.

 

12/75. Just packed the firebox full of chestnut oak and one split of SBH.

 

It got up to 22f today in my part of MO. I let the fire go out for over 10 hours. Started a fire back up for the night when the house hit 60.

My youngest and I had spent some time outside feeding and watering animals. When we came back in we left on our long johns and sweatshirt while we ate some chili soup. We didn't think the house was that cold until the wife called out from under some blankets. House is 71f now and burning more oak and ash

 

They are actually a popular stove here among the older clientele. I think they are beautiful too.
