Been out of the loop for a bit dealing with life. Haven't been feeling well....but I needed some brain therapy. Took the 562xp and took it out on some far reaching crooked cherry trees behind the house. There was a big open spot for them to reach to light. We worked to remove most of the grapevines and dead trees within it....and have nice sugar Maples trying to grow in there. So these got to go. Didn't have much energy to give...but made some progress !
Slow and steady wins the race! I hope you get to feeling better, and soon. Wooding is definitely good therapy.
Thanks for all the well wishes. I need all the help I can get..thats for sure. There's still plenty more to cut...hopefully another kick in the rear-end will get it done soon lol ! Also forgot to post the pics of one of the lil dying cherries oozing some beautiful brown sap ! Don't see that too often !
The cherry jelly is probably gummosis from canker, beetles or a stress of some sort. Crooked is how black cherry grows here, even with ideal conditions. They're full of a bacterial canker here that also gets into the plum trees and makes it almost impossible to have plum trees.
It's very bitter and it also supposed to be toxic. Supposedly the fruit is edible, but only if you remove the pit. Doesn't seem to harm birds, but they may pass the pit too fast.
Yep. Why they call it choke cherry in some parts. Interestingly, goats can chomp it down all day with no ill effects.
Got some more progress made on this Cherry. Just can't seem to shake the cobwebs off of me.. but glad to be out and about just the same !
