14° out 74 in the stove room Ash in the quadrafire. I brought up a cart full of 4 yr dried honey locust chunks for the coming cold snap where it won't get out of the single digits for highs.
21/69 just reloaded with 2 big cherry splits. Looking at the weather were supposed to get a decent sized snow storm the 23rd then plunge to single digits.
40f for the high and 23f for the low Sunday through Wednesday.. then the bottom falls out. Forecast of snow then lowes of -5f and highs of 5f for a couple days. House is set at 70 but gets up to 75 sometimes after a stove reload. Youngest boy and I started stacking wood in the basement to make it though the negative temp days. Oak and hickory with a 12"x12"x20" piece of ash for each long burning night. We have our wood bunk stacked at 2 times normal capacity and filling another tomorrow before the cold hits. Cut and split 4 milk crates of kindling that we probably won't need since the fire will be burning full time. Wood bunk usually lasts a week.
Good to see everyone is doing well. Tonight's temperature. Nice thing about 40 below . Tho it's only 39 below . F or C it's the same Fire killed white and black spruce keeping both the house and the workshop/coop warm. Tho the shop/coop is much cooler than the house is.
It wasn't shut all the way down, a little more than normal...But I had a very hot bed when I threw those individual logs on. The log on the left completely burnt up and the one on the right gave me just enough coals to get my fire started up and kept the house to 70 when I got up at 3 a.m.
21 woke up to the sound of the thermostat click, so I rolled out and loaded the stoves with red and white oak. Turned down the thermostat and it’s coffee time.
20 this morning. I’ll be around off and on so I loaded the burn chamber with large Spruce and Pine splits.
25/70. White Oak doing the work. After work going to bring down some black locust for later in the week. I was hoping to hold off until late Jan/Feb to break out BL. But if you got it, burn it.
Sitting at -25 C feels -35 C (-13 F feels -31 F) with the wind this morning, and temps to rise only 2-3 degrees all day. Random piece of poplar and pine uglies in the reactor.
