I think the Stihl MS250 has to be one of the best "bang for your buck" bargain saws. For the money, it has decent specs and build quality. Are there any other saws you guys/girls think are great values?

I went not P or X because they are in the same non pro area as the ms250. That said, all Echo products are excellent quality. Not always the fastest or most powerful but they sure hold up well.

Stihl ms500i!!!!!! isn't that always the only acceptable answer these days..... (before the 500 it was the husky 562xp)......lol

Seriously though, Echo 590, and most other echo saws too.
I bought a new ms250 last year, and I agree it's a pretty good value...not an amazing saw in any way, but it just works every time.

I would also add, my husky 353 has been a great saw for a long time!
Not 100% obsolete either.....still available in other countries.....and, there's a fine gentleman "over there" that'll ship a new one over for less than the cost of a new 550xp.

How well does your ms250 oil the bar? I ask because my cousin works for Davey doing fiber and they buy ms250 saws for the crews. He hates them because they don't oil hardly at all. Of course he hates all Stihl saws because he drinks from the Husqvarna / Jonsered fan club punch bowl so there's that. Lol. My two Stihls oil enough as they leave a strip of oil on the wood but I'd like to see them oil like my Echo saws. No idea if it's necessary but I'm used to the Echo oilers being big-time slingers.

The Stihl ms 250 has a reputation of being very dependable. The ECHO saws are some of the best budget saws. 4910 or 590 will cut alot of firewood. 500 is gets you a 620 PHO which you can use husqvarna D009 bars on. The 590 /620 have alot of torque for 60cc saws, and stock they won't quite run with the Stihl/husqvarna 60cc pro saws. A muffler mod and carb tune wakes them up very well. I have a stock 620 and it pulls a 28 inch bar in pine. The Echo 400 is a workhorse of a saw also. For 500 $ or less echo gives you alot of saw.

Any Echo, the 490 was my workhorse but they replaced it with the 4910 and 501 iirc so either of those.

I have an MS 250. I bought it a few years ago for a second saw. It does what I need it to do reliably.

That’s all new stihls any person that’s used to older saws or other brands will think the new stihls don’t oil vary well. The don’t throw gobs of oil but I don’t see them ruin bars and chains

The ms 250 is actually and excellent saw overall as far as a homeowner saw gos and so is the ms290/390. For what they are I’ve seen people do way more than they should be doing with them and the come back for more. I’ll also second an echo seems very good quality for the money. The new cheap huskies aren’t for me that little 240 ect doesn’t need to be manufactured anymore as far as im concerned. It’s a total blemish on the husqvarna name and doesn’t do anything good for them as a company.

I agree on the small Huskies. I had one that didn't last. I have a 460 and have no complaints.

Never have used a 250, but know a firewood seller that uses one for mass cutting and seems to like it. I recommend that model (or a 251) to folks looking for a reliable firewooding saw. Nothing ive used comes to mind to compare it with. The only homeowner saw ive used was a 170.
    I know jo191145 likes his 250!

I remember looking to buy a rear handle MS200 several years back. About a decade ago. Even them they were around $700 I want to say. The dealer wouldn't sell it to anyone other than a licensed arborist. Said due to liability and kickback concerns he couldn't.

I had to laugh. I could see maybe...maybe... a top handle, but not a rear handle 35cc saw. I've run saws up to 92cc that absolutely mock a 200 since I was a teenager.

The Dolmar 350 and 420 also looked like nice little saws. I looked them over pretty good when I bought my 7900 and 5100.

My Dad runs 2 MS 250's and he's had very good luck with them. I run bigger saws, so when I grab one of those things, it's like a feather.

Years back i had an OPE say the same to me when i was looking at top handles. Asplundh crews are no longer allowed to use them around here. Very easy to get lax with one vs a bigger rear handled saw.
