    Just furthering my limited knowledge.

Moving wood today, I noticed these white lines on the ends of 4yr oak.

The lines that travel from the heart to bark. Those are the medurally rays, correct?

    A few other pieces

As compared to a piece of maple.

That be them. I've seen faint medullary rays in beech as well.

yes, <radial> lines. All trees have them, they are quite visible on some.

When 1/4 sawn into lumber and finished a certain way, those rays really pop, bringing out natures beauty.

Beautiful pieces there. It's such a shame the younger generations have lost their eye for this type of beauty and craftsmanship.

Why whatever do you mean ?

Painted surfaces are gorgeous, as opposed to nasty looking natural wood grain…

    Aren’t they ?

Back when the earth was young and dinosaurs roamed every street corner I had a nice bookmarked quartersawn White Oak double armoire. It was the type of furniture who’s future was judged by how many more moves it could handle before it fell apart. Heavy+.
Very few people understood what they were looking at when they saw that piece. I’m sure some considered it gaudy. I admired the natural beauty and the workmanship of just keeping those boards properly sorted through out the build. I found that a feat in itself :)
