The story around here, and a lot of Christmas tree farms are in Wisconsin, is that the families that grow the trees at farms haven't been planting as many in recent years. It all apparently started about 2008 or so and they planted less trees several years ago. So that's why there's only short ones available for sale, either pre cut or cut it yourself.

We went to a tree farm and all were short. Trying to find a 6 footer wasn't as easy as it should be. That was for our friends. Our house we have tall ceilings in the front room where we put our tree. We typically get a 8+ footer, if we move the tree away from the window, we could put a 14 footer if not taller. Last year I got a tree from a guy that brought two home from the woods while hunting and only could use 1. Free big tree, and it was pretty nice. This year it was home Depot again and the tree selection over 7' was almost non existent, unless you wanted to buy a Frazier for that was twice the price of the 8' Douglas fir we picked. HD had 3 grand first in the 6-8' range and they were all 6 foot, and barely that.

Maybe next year I'll do what dad and I used to do, and find a 30 footer that has a perfect Christmas tree top and bring that home with us from deer hunting. Our old house I grew up in could take a 20+ footer. Cathedral ceilings in that house that was designed by a church architect.

99 lbs wanted a tree for the back deck. I called a tree farm near us and got a 7-7 1/2' blue spruce for $10. (Heck, the USFS wants $5 for a permit and then you have to ride around looking for one.) That thing is too huge!

I'll be cutting it shorter today (to keep someone happy.......) and then putting it up.
