I'm pulling from a stack of mixed species. 2.5 years. I was told the mix was red maple, ash, apple, and elm. I know it's not RM, ash, or apple. If elm, I don't recall it being difficult to split when it was green. Split weight is average. In the second picture, it looks wet to the right. It's not wet. Most of the splits have a similar stain. The wood has a yellowish hew to it.yes? I have a fair amount of it. What say ye'?
The bark sort of looks red maplish, but the end grain looks like catalpa based on grain "texture, but color throws me. Is it heavy or light?
Not catalpa. Heavier than pine. Lighter than oak. It just remembered, I had a thread about it. My next score? Hopefully! The trees that were dropped are between the street and yard.
I just went through that older thread of mine. It was good to review! I came up with one pic from back then, that shows a yellowish split. Upper left Then, a picture that put a smile on my face.
MikeInMa if you don’t mind I’d like to jump on your wagon. a dead standing tree fell in the yard at work this week. They told me to cut it up and push it over the bank. I asked if I could keep it. No leaf to take pics of. What have I got here?
That’s what I was thinking, thanks. it burns great, I’m gonna pull the rest of the stem out and buck it up.
Possibly, there is no snap crackle and pop when burning and it doesn’t have a sweet aroma from the smoke.
I'm not sure what it is. Yellowish mystery wood. If it's Elm, then I've learned a bit more. It burns nice, though.
