Passed this Friday, spotting this one log near the road. Black locust, fresh cut.
    IMG_2236.JPG
Spied the others on the little hilltop out of the corner of my eye. No time to stop. No time till today to get back there. Been jonesing since. Mania has been building. Fresh cutting back from the wires. Mightve been a leaner. IMG_2237.JPG IMG_2239.JPG Hastily cut and felled. PITA to get nice rounds. Lots of nuggets. IMG_2240.JPG IMG_2242.JPG
Nice heaping load. At least a half cord. IMG_2246.JPG IMG_2247.JPG IMG_2248.JPG IMG_2249.JPG More there as well as prior cutting from years ago. Hiding under the prickers and overgrowth. Common thing on roadside BL scores. LOCUST MANIA BABY! :loco:  Gotta love it! IMG_2241.JPG

Sort of. I use the reverse hook to slice off vines & prickers. Sometimes for light machete work. Spearing rounds for carrying, removing loose bark etc.
    Versatile Tool

Wasnt really planning on going back there today but a delivery took me past it so got the rest of the fresh cut and an old blown down trunk with some clean up and limb wood. IMG_2254.JPG IMG_2255.JPG IMG_2256.JPG IMG_2257.JPG IMG_2259.JPG More there still. Didnt have clippers to clear the way for this. IMG_2258.JPG Did find and excavate more years old remnant wood to get washed off. Another trip in the future.
Face cord for todays load. IMG_2260.JPG IMG_2261.JPG IMG_2262.JPG IMG_2266.JPG IMG_2264.JPG IMG_2263.JPG BL rack for barkless has been opened up at storage so i can S/S as it arrives. IMG_2265.JPG

Split some over the weekend and more today. Set a half cord rack and stacked away. More than a half cord once i finish splitting. Amazes me how bulkier the bark on BL is vs. barkless. IMG_2293.JPG IMG_2295.JPG IMG_2294.JPG

We don't have BL around here, looks amazing! Kind of a cross between Live Oak and Manzanita but straighter.
