Nice hickory log. Decided to take a pic after I had the 462 in it.

A Dickory? Nah just oak. Gotta mix your hardwoods. Dickory is just poetic license.

Getting ready to fill the third dock. More poetic license. I don’t get paid for thread titles ya know.

Making my way through the 2018/2019 logs rather well. The end is in sight. Then I can start bringing it in from the woods. The locust is one wood I don’t worry about in log form. It gets better with age :)

That’s a tough call. There’s so much. By rights I should take down the half dozen or so Ash on the property as they rot faster. But the women probably have other things in mind. I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it.
Welcome to come play saws any day. Just give a holler.

Looks like some have been laying around for a while, but still great firewood.

btw, how did your covering do with the high winds? Or maybe you didn't get too much of them?

Most of those logs have been patiently waiting since 2018 to get processed. The hickory not quite that long but,,,,hickory don’t like waiting :)
The 2018 oak has some punky pulp wood. The box wedge helps remove some of that better than other methods. Heart wood is still good. Have one log coming up that may get dragged back in the woods. Inspection required.
Tarp held up well. Winds weren’t that bad and of short duration for the worst of them.
Just delivered bungee cord in a bulk roll. Possibly you can buy hooks for it to make my own in custom lengths. That would be a game changer.
Wanted to see the cord before I investigated it’s use. Seems good quality. Worth pursuing.
I know the stiff rubber ones from Harbor Freight that are cheap aren’t worth much. The rubber is cracking already.

Wow! I could have covered my living room floor with hickory flooring from that log! Nice work! That big boy will heat you for a lone time! :salute:

It was a fine specimen of a tree. Utility company took it down near my house. It was a leaner. Unfortunately most of the logs were split when they dropped it. One made it to the mill in payment for services.

Nice operation you've got going on.
Some serious piles of wood. Yep, hickory doesn't weather well.

Totally agree! We should get smarter with age.....but that's the only way I can think of things getting better as we age!!

Thanks. Yeah I did a small amount of seeking a few days ago. There are several types. I’ll have to spend the time to figure out how they all work. As long as I know they’re out there that’s all that matters for now. It’ll be awhile before I fill the next bay. Hoping the cheap rubber ones last until at least spring. Not looking good tho :)

The ones like I linked, all you need to do is slide the bungee through then tie a knot in the end.
