Cut up a Post oak that I had my eye on for the last few months. They always seems to be a bit larger and farther off the road than you think looking at them. A cool thing is a guy from down the road saw me loading it up and asked if I wanted some more wood. He lives just up the road from where I was cutting and had cleared for a pond and has some oak he said piled from pushing it all over. Said I was welcome to come cut it up if I wanted. Need to get my wood buddy a call and head over there. Don't know the guy but know exactly where he just built a house this last year and where he's building the pond . I unloaded it all and split it today. Got it just in a pile on a pallet till I clean all the wood out of the shed from last year and make some changes to how I stack in there and start filling the shed up with the wood I have split already and what's laying around that needs splitting.
Nice little haul. Happens to me often when im scrounging. Someone stops and asks if i want more wood. Hopefully some good stuff there.
Those eagle eyed ones of you may notice those few smaller rounds on the top in the back and think that looks like sweet gum! This guy hasn't a clue what he is doing. Well your right and wrong. Untill I just looked at the pic I forgot about those. There was a sweet gum about the same size that blew over as well. I was a few pieces shy of filling the wheel barrow up the last trip to the truck. The saws were there so I just cut about four more rounds to fill the wheel barrow up, since I was making the trip. I don't go out of my way to cut sweet gum but I will for sure cut it if it's right next to me like in this case. And I just cut pieces that I wouldn't need to worry about splitting. Will just stack those rounds in the pile. It all burns.
I had those same thoughts. Sometimes folks will pile it somewhat neatly if they think they may cut it up. I will see. You and I are both probably right and it might all be in piles intertwined with brush and junk wood?
Ha. I don't have a new anything and don't really ever plan too. I get a new one at work every 3-4 years. It will be whatever they get. Have had all three of the big makers. I do like GM but that said I drove a Ford for many years and liked it as well. I currently have an f150 as my work truck. Had a Ram before that. And a Colorado before that. They all have issues...that in my opinion they shouldn't in the short time I own them.
Post is just a different white oak. The wood is Very very similar to white oak, Quercus Alba the one we all know as white oak with the flaky bark.
