Suggestions on cleaning out 2" receiver

I needed to use my sons truck to tow a trailer but couldn't get hitch in it. Had to use plan B.

 

PB Blaster and a wire brush is what I used.

 

What was plan B?

 

Use a truck with no plates.

 

Grab yourself a can of "Fluid Film" @ the parts store. Wire brush it out and spray liberally. Fluid Film is water resistant and does not evaporate. It is also a penetrating oil. Not solvent based, actually lanolin based. Good also on yours hands during cold dry weather to prevent skin cracking.

 

After I got mine cleaned I coated it with neversieze

 

I've done that and it seemed to attract dirt.

 

I would think that anything short of dry graphite will have some degree of dirt attraction. You would be better off with more frequent cleanings/re-sprays. I have found never-seize to coat things but spreads like crazy on everything it contacts. Class "A" mess to clean off your hands as well.

 

Fluid Film can withstand the underside of a mower deck. A hitch should be no problem.

 

I'd just clean up the hitch with a grinder. Then lube the crap outta the reciever with whatever ya got.

 

Clean... lube... cap. I've never done that... I hear it's a good idea.

 

You do know that we are talking about a receiver hitch, right.
