Bird in the Stove

    Oh my gosh!!! Looks like that children's poem ...' 4 and 20 black birds; puddin in a pie'! Or, something like that. Yum :D
    Yes, I plan on a screen install in the spring...already talked to the local tree man...3 different size boom trucks...so one should work! The plan is to 'get er' done this spring when we return from wintering in AZ.

    I plan on doing as you suggest...in the spring we'll either replace the cap with a screened on, or wrap with poultry netting (3/4 inch) or hardware cloth (1/2 inch).

    Hart and Cooley chimney cap with no screeen and never had animals find their way down. (At least not yet)
    Had a bird get into a bird feeder once though. That was different.

    I get a couple birds in the chimney every year, some years worse than others. My chimney exits the house through the wall then scoots on up, so in the spring, I remove the bottom cleanout lid and block the wall entry with a Folger's plastic coffee can lid. This way the birds fall straight through with only some soot to contend with. The starlings do a cracking great job cleaning the chimney though.
