Somehow the newspaper decided a the timber harvest of 16 acres of private land was a newsworthy event. I cant post the article, but the gist is a neighbor was hoping the land next to him was going onto market because he saw surveyors. He even wrote to the church that owns it expressing interest. Then he got upset because the property was under timber harvest/ improvement. Even researching theChurch’s budget from their website to determine a reason for the sale. This county borders mine and is a tourist attraction with a lot f transplants who want to live in the woods and commune with nature. Unfortunately they can be ignorant. This particular pilgrim mentioned moving from the Northeast; which causes an immediate eyeroll and “now I get it” from locals. Our roots are Appalachian in this part of Indiana. That translates to “what I do with my property is none of your business “ Several are amazed at the nerve of this guy, and the newspaper for writing such a lame story. Heck, I just harvested, how come i didn’t rate a story? Oh, and their Google maps insert was of Somerset Lake, PA, rather than the little area of Brown county. More laughs
Get used to it, it's gonna get worse. The local township (rural suburban) directors adopted an ordinance last year that requires a permit ($ and remediation required, on your own property!) to cut a single tree down. I attended the meetings and did my best to dissuade them, but they could not have cared less about any position other than their own, there was lots of opposition. It is spreading, as more and more people grow up in front of screens and are completely out of touch with what really happens outside. All trees need protected! Most of the townships in the area are using a "model" (generic) statute (makes it fast and easy), and modifying it slightly. The model statute is super obtrusive, and clearly is a taking of property without compensation. I'm sure it was designed to be that way by some radical environmental group. And I consider myself to be a staunch conservationist! In my opinion, it's more of a control thing than anything else. I am still personally disgusted by the whole thing.
What the townships do is make you replant as many as 5 trees for every one you cut down when you do the lot clearing for new construction the township I live in tried this crazy ordinance to not let you log within 150 yards of your property line it was challenged and found illegal by state law and it got thrown out . This whole thing came about because a property owner was going to log and the neighbor in the McMansion development house did not want the trees cut it would spoil there view of the woods (Their development was cleared to build the houses ) but that is what you deal with anymore at least this time common sense won out JB
I witnessed it one day at a neighbors- one neighbor ratted out the other neighbor having tree work. The township code officer showed up and sent the arborist team away. The ordinance allows for fines. I recommended to the neighbor having the work done to call the township and make it clear that the trees were either dead or dying, and that they were endangering their kids and pets by not getting them down. They avoided the fines.
Sounds good and all, except the township can put liens on your property that accumulate interest and penalties. We don't really own our properties, we just rent them from the local governments who collect taxes on them. If you don't believe me, stop paying your property taxes and see what happens. And now they are increasingly becoming like homeowners associations, with their invasive ordinances controlling things.
Would Would never live in a town where they had that much control. And I’m talking about the trees. I think we all know we have to pay taxes, like it or not
I said exactly the same thing, but then one day, there it was! It came to me, and trust me, it's coming for us all before too long. I'm really not willing to move from the place that I've spent much of my life improving, and someone else lives here with me that doesn't want to move. So, it gets pretty complicated. Plus, my luck would be that I'd move, and then that municipality would enact a similar ordinance.
There are, unfortunately, some entities that absolutely hate religion and the freedoms that have been afforded them by our brilliant forefathers and their great wisdoms. The evil these entities represent often own the media used to attempt to disseminate their evil.
Ask yourself, over the course of human history, has more evil been done in the name of religion, or by the media? And what happens to my freedoms if my religion isn't the same as yours? A few examples (but by no means nearly comprehensive), the Spanish Inquisitions, The Crusades, the oppression by the Church of England (resulting in the United States), the genocide of the native American people (convert or be tortured and executed) the never ending Catholic church scandals involving children, 9/11, pretty much every middle eastern country that has a theology, and religion has had major role in almost every war man has fought. Just some cold, hard perspective.
All these types of terrors are due to spiritually wicked people in high places.Power is only good for the people if only good people are in power.
It's 2022 My freedoms should be the same as yours regardless what our respective religions are or are not. It's 2022
If memory serves the crusades were taken up because the moorish hoards were invading. That's an unpleasant situation so they pushed back.
Of course there are two sides as to the causes of the crusades. The Muslim side and the Christian side.As always the Victors write the history.
