Havent bought a saw since the Winter. Browse CL/FBM almost daily for deals. Just happened to find this listing less than ten minutes old. PMed and was the first. Road trip in the rain this afternoon. :saw:
Circa 1992 Stihl 034 (56cc) original owner and red lever to boot. IMG_2189.JPG IMG_2190.JPG IMG_2197.JPG IMG_2195.JPG IMG_2196.JPG Not bad for $100 including about a half gallon of bar oil and two extra chains even though they are green label semi chisel. Had it been five minutes later i would've missed out. And i almost didnt go on FBM either.

Trust me i know that. He had ten inquiries after me and a couple that messaged asking if i showed up.
Ive seen comparable saws for $250-300. I almost didnt look on FBM either.
Guess the saws gods were looking out for me!

Nice looking saw buZZsaw BRAD ! Is that an 18” bar? You put it in wood yet?
I’ve always been curious about the 034-038 saws, wondering how they compare to modern saws of the same power and weight?

Had a chance at a 038 a couple years ago , but it wouldn’t start when I showed up so the guy had the carb rebuilt then he wanted to much for it so I passed.

    034, 036, 360= 1125 series. One of Stihl’s best for sure.

I owned an 036 pro for a few months and when it ran i really liked it. Needed crank seals which i had done and later had hot start issues so i sent her packing.

If a decent deal on a nice 038 (preferably a Magnum) id seriously consider it.

You're not joking with the timing comment. If I'm serious about a FB deal, it's pretty much drop everything and make it happen or someone else will.

The thing that really got me was my timing for finding the listing. A few minutes earlier it wouldnt have been listed yet and a few minutes later and i wouldnt have been the first to contact him. My PM said "ill take it and when can i come and PU." I then sent my number showing how serious i was. Luckily it rained in the afternoon so no lost wooding time. Ms. buZZsaw wasnt too happy when i told her i was going after a chainsaw. Are they ever? I bought KFC on the way back so she didnt have to cook.

Ive found a couple other killer deals that the sellers reneged on the deal. One guy got several hits after me and then PM's me saying he had several other buyers. It was an 020 top handle dirt cheap and decent condition worth a few hundred. He turned into a ghost. Another guy i locked in the deal, told him id be there the next day as i was going that way anyhow. He texts me later in the day saying he sold it and couldnt wait.
Im like WTF, where's the honor in people today? This guy was cool though. He kept his word and i thanked him for doing so. I sell on CL and can relate on dealing with people and it can be aggravating.

034 was my first Stihl - that I owned. Started out as a ball of dirt and ended up being a pretty decent firewood saw.

We've far eclipsed them these days as far as performance goes, but they still run good and are very reliable.

Not kidding about reliable. I ran 3/4 tank through it cutting some dead black locust today. Cold start it fired on the first pull! I didnt clean anything up either. Ran it as i got it. I may get a tune up kit and throw it in there. He hadnt used it much in recent years. Love that "old time" saw sound.
Started on the second or third pull when i tried it at his place.

Are the red levers anything significant on the 034's MasterMech, huskihl? My research said no. My 026 has one.

Keeping for now. I had an 036 pro (62cc) last year and liked it a lot. 034 from the same series and fits nicely in my line up at 56cc. 261(50cc) & 361(59cc) Fired on the first pull today.

Nice to know i can make a decent chunk of change should i sell it. $250-325 on FBM based on current asking prices. Saw is comparable to them.

Funny side story. It was a wedding gift to him in 1992! Maybe ill propose to Ms. buZZsaw and invite the FHC to the wedding!

    Just a suggestion.
You mention a tune up kit. Stay away from the cheap kits from places like amazon and ebay.
Cheap import stuff of poor quality.

Clean air filter ; replace if bad. ( OPE part)
    New spark plug.
    Check fuel filter

    Then just let it rip.
    Not much to tune up.

If filters look good just blow them out.
Spark plug you can get from the local auto parts store. BPMR7A is the NGK plug. Might be better on Amazon , 4 pack is $12

    Not sure on next saw.
However there is an old Stihl sitting on the shelf at second job , not used and a dust collector for years.
Going to most likely grab it. I think it is 034pro

    Will check tonight.
