I find these discussions funny; a vehicle is a tool much like a chainsaw, a knife or any other tool.
Get the one that works for the man/woman using it.
No problem having more than 1

All used vehicles are appreciating in value daily. That's the world we live in currently.

To be clear, I'm not anti conventional truck of any shape or size. I've owned many. I just have no need for one anymore. I get the ride and mpg I need and want and the truck capabilities I require with this truck.

I had a guy on another forum tell me, paraphrasing here, that I had no business buying anything but a car if it wasn't what he deemed a real truck. Of course when I offered to let him purchase me what vehicle he thought I should have he wasn't going to do that.

Vehicles are tools with different usages. I have more than one tool in my tool box. I don't use a 3/4 ratchet to remove 1/4" bolt so why would I use a heavy duty truck to tow 2000-4000 or haul some lumber, bikes, saws, camping gear or gas cans when a smaller, better riding and more fuel efficient truck can? If I need more truck in the future I'll buy more truck. Simple as that.

The tacoma is not near the truck the hilux is. Think of the hilux as a good old fashioned working mans truck. We use to be able to weld on the beds with 1/8 7018 rod. The terrorists placed anti aircraft guns in them without tearing up the beds. Tacoma is a great little truck, but the hilux is a different beast all together. You can get crank windows a good standard transmission and the little diesels really make a forever truck. I did find out that I can get the diesel motor out of mexico, but not the truck.

Anyone else out there that served in the last 30 years have any experience with them also? The biggest problem is getting them registered here with the VIN number. If they are made in 95 or before they consider them antique so you can register them in most states. Hard to find though.

Besides my Ford F350 diesel, I have a real big truck in the barn. It's an International long nose double bunk conventional with a Cat 3406 B model and a 18 speed road ranger and a Wilson tandem axle 42 foot hopper bottom grain trailer. My fall income, hauling grain to the elevator for local farmers, and hauling seed corn cobs to the seed house down the road (where I get compensated with free seed corn to roast that won't germ above 95%). To be marketable, seed corn has to germ above 95% by volume. Below 95% it cannot be sold.

I don't base my pickup truck on size, I base it on it's ability to haul and pull my tri axle gooseneck when it's loaded with round bales. A weinie truck won't do that, especially one with a tiny motor. I typically load 20 round bales that each weigh about 1000 pounds.

Oh I know, from reading and vids, that those hilux rigs are animals. I threw the Taco out for something that is able to be acquired here. Other countries definitely have some cool rigs we can't get.

Not mine but appears there are 1"-3" lifts for these. Some are sold through and installed at Certain Honda dealerships with full warranty.

Don't get me wrong, I have no problems with mods, as long as they serve a purpose beyond "look at me", I just made my $80,000 truck useless!

My wife and I saw a diesel truck the other day with what looked like a 10"x10" square stack just right of center. Looked like a steam engine when he took off.

I dunno if I still have the pic, but I'm pretty sure I posted it here somewhere a couple years ago...a kid that works at the carwash down the street welded a metal 5 gallon bucket on his F350 tailpipe as an exhaust tip...it was in the factory location (RR corner angled exit) I'll see if I can find it.
Then there is the pic I found online of someone that used a 55 gallon barrel as a "stack" in his bed :picard::picard::picard::rofl:

Can confirm! I’ve hung out with you a few times now and while you’re definitely a few tools short of a full set there’s probably more than one tool in there…;)

That rolling coal is coming to an end.

I have my Ford Turbo diesel cranked up but I have a Gale Banks kit on it and Gale ascribes to power, not visible particulates. That coal is just wasted fuel and with diesel at almost 6 bucks a gallon here, I don't want to waste any of it. Same way with my turbo diesel tractors. They might smoke a tad bit under heavy load but that's it.

My thoughts are, anyone who pays 80 grand for a truck is nucking futz.

I am not surprised lol. There's one running around here with some large can on the tip at factory location. Not a bucket but the truck is not lifted and it almost drags the ground with a load in the back.

..at least the tires are properly inflated in those pictures. Why automakers put TPM's on newer vehicles. People never check their tire pressure.
