The Boy and I headed out to the cut today. He ran the splitting maul (the kid's a machine) and I ran the saw. Except for 4 logs, everything is cut up. I chased all the trees top to bottom, and cut some smaller stuff. Most everything cut today was shorts for a friend, and everything split today was for us.

Will split a little tomorrow before festivities, and then again over the weekend. we have about half a cord of splits awaiting transport home, and probably a cord or two in rounds for us, and maybe a cord for a friend.

There is a lot of wood there! Looking good. That looks like a nasty round to the left of your boy. How hard are those to split?

I'm heading out shortly to split for a bit today before Thanksgiving activities commence. Got a good night's sleep. It's 20 out there, we'll see if I'm really the hardened battle-axe I should be at this age!

I'm not sure we'll be able to do it all this weekend. I bet Ill spend most of Friday and Saturday swinging the maul. Stumpy will be around to assist.
Some of those rounds are farther back, there will be some walkin going on too!

Most of the rounds have been fairly straight grained. But there have been a fair number of rounds that were branch butts, most split, a few noodled. The big one in the pic is a large branch butt, with very little straight wood in it. I reckon that big one will stay there!

I went out and moved all the rounds from yesterday's cutting. some were farther back, So I brought them all forward to a flatter splitting area. It was a beautiful morning, sunny, fresh air, the works. The boy and I are heading out in the morning, to put in a day (till it rains). perhaps we'll get a load or two out!
    More then.
He is an absolute pleasure to work beside. There is plenty of laughter and fun.
