Yesterday I picked up this grinder called a Silvey 510 that was New In the Box. What do you think boys, is this worth keeping? Also had a CBN wheel given to me that needs cleaning. Any tips?

Now I am going to have to redo my grinder station. The Tecomec is for rakers, the 511AX is for .325 and the Silvey 510 is for .375 & .404.

This one is set up with 80 gauge rails right now. My new ones are coming in next week. So I may get rid of the 80 gauge assembly for the harvester type chain if anyone is interested.

I've been looking for a long time. I was working on a used one with the place I got this. The shop was going to swap out the old for the new one but he never got around to it. So I said I'd take the new one and he said "OK". :handshake:

It was a good price on the grinder, but since I have to change out the 80 gauge rails it will be another $160.

I just finished making a new bench to hold all three. The height is such that the cutter level is almost at my shoulders so there is no stooping over to see what is going on. I am debating making a vacuum system for the dust now. The resinoid Silvey wheels are so much better than the vitrified since they don't heat up the cutters and have a better finish IMHO, however they are mighty dusty. :hair:

I have been using Silvey wheels that are worn out on my 511AX but I had to make a bushing to adapt from the 1" arbor to 7/8ths.

I have one light your left more unit. Works great for chain saw chains and harvester chain. I paid around $150 for it.

What a setup! Is this business or personal use?

And what is the blue shoelace string all about?

No it's strictly for personal use. I like high quality tools.

I am going to grind chain for some loggers I have an arrangement with. I bribe them with apples out of my orchard and they load my trailer with log cut offs with the forwarder. To sweeten the deal, I'll grind chain for them.

The shoe lace is because both the Tecomec and Oregon 511AX have way to much travel and it wastes motion to allow it travel the full length. The shoe lace just shortens the stroke of the grinder.

I paid no where near $950, but the new rails were spendy, I picked them up today and with shipping were $180.
