A friend contacted us a few days ago, he goes to the Baptist church in our little town. They had cut a big 2 stem hickory and a big oak. Several members had taken all the smaller wood they wanted. They didn't have a bigger saw. Did we want the rest? Maybe 2 miles from home. We took the 16' trailer, since we had a load of oak firewood on the dump trailer. The big log was 19' long, even cut about 10' was all the Kubota could handle. MS461 28"b&c handled it nicely. Another member of the church had taken a big section home with his tractor. We also used the grapple to move all the limbs to the woods. We didn't have time to get the oak yet. It's bigger than the hickory. We may get all of it, if the guy that wanted a trunk section to mill can't come get it.
Nice!! That’ll make an awesome pile of splits. New splitter should make quick work of it too. Hickory slows me down a little because I don’t have a push through style splitter.
Nice Score! I want to see a video of Sampson dominating the log. That’s enough for the whole Lexington bbq festival.
It's actually pretty knotty. I may use the TSC 30 ton on some of it. The wedge on it slices better. We split some big rounds of oak last night that had some knots, made Blue Samson grunt, kicked off the auto return valve. Had to hold the lever down...
WOW! Have you been praying to the wood Gods or something? You seem to get mostly oak and hickory Jeff. Are those the most common trees in your area?
Very nice score! It's amazing how much wood a guy can get, just by having a big saw that can handle it. Most people want as small as possible, so they don't have to split it, and it's easy to move it. 90 percent of what I get, is due to me having the saw to tackle it.
I'll try to remember to get a video. Maybe we won't break the wedge...lol... Had some big oak with a couple knots last night, with the 4 way on, had it grunting and flexing...
Just been passing on blessings as they come.. Those are the most common firewood trees here, with oak predominant...
That's true. Having a tractor sure helps too. If we can't cut it with 32" bar, tractor isn't moving it. We habe gotten some monster logs before.
