    1. Today’s pictures….
Got to the job site before it was light enough to do anything. Got started at 6am. I focused on mainly the cottonwoods and stuff that was in the way of them. Most of them required a 32” bar and a few needed 36”. I think there’s 4-5?left for in the morning when I’m fresh. Bigger saws and long bars on a bank/side hill get pretty tiring pretty quickly. I had to give up around 5:30pm.
    I could type more…… but I’m just gonna post the pic and go to bed ECB52CD4-9860-4A0C-A9BE-1AC889731A7F.jpeg A36A001F-25DF-4EAB-93A4-70AE083595FE.jpeg 0B221204-2B8C-4DED-B678-31DEDFD27523.jpeg E9DD1AED-2D1B-4A92-910E-1FDEA52FDA76.jpeg 57167D14-DBB8-4EDD-AC47-AE9C55CDFB43.jpeg D2B89062-A0B1-4EF1-BF7A-5E34BAD1302B.jpeg 93478453-6C10-4797-8742-474D190A721F.jpeg E4AF45D9-2142-4541-A1D7-94D82C77D116.jpeg

I definitely gained a whole nuther level of respect for anyone who is or has been a timber harvester ( what’s the proper title? Feller? Lumberjack? sawer?). Granted what I was doing pales in comparison. But it did involve climbing up and down banks, over grown vegetation hiding old limbs and branches, bigger saws and longer bars. Plus they have to pack all many of other plunder with them ( logging tapes, felling wedges, axes and so on.

My hat is off to these professionals.
I doubt that they have to deal with the kind of temperatures we had this weekend very often, but they probably work on days that would have me huddled next to the stove.

Well my obligation is over ( thank goodness) I did what I said I would, …. 2 full days of running my saws. ( was on the job 6:00 to 6:00 both days)
I would guess the job is not much more than 60% done. By his own admission Darren said he bid it less than half of what it should have been. He also had another guy that was supposed to be there, but bailed, supposedly he’ll be there Monday with his hired guy.
I focused mostly on the cottonwoods but did cut a bunch of the other smaller stuff today,(a couple elms, bunches of hackberry, and a few Boxelder). Yesterday afternoon we discovered a group of 4 cottonwoods on the far west end of the job (1 standing dead and 3 alive) turns out 2 of them were the biggest on the job. They were pretty intimidating/scary for me. I didn’t measure but using guide bars as a reference I’m guessing 42” and 52” maybe. And the longest bar I have is 36. But I got them down safely!
Stephiedoll probably heard and felt them land!!
Biggest problem is I couldn’t get the biggest trunk broke down to manageable sizes. Not sure how he is gonna handle it. 6BDF79D9-4814-4593-9547-4EA34C127C89.jpeg 6C3D0C89-0B8B-4347-BE4B-74E6131097F6.jpeg 29DB6675-7D38-431E-BF91-2BD56B1EAB2F.jpeg EF8B8736-2102-4872-ACF6-CA353107C4D8.jpeg
That’s Darren in the tree knocking it apart with his 261 …. He cut an amazing amount of big stuff with it,18” bar
And Parker ( his stepson ) standing beside the 42” and the 52” to the right of him BC0A7602-9600-4A54-9A17-07C92F16FE55.jpeg C52C734B-0F7C-4480-942A-D6C7DE36E26E.jpeg

I did feel something, but shook it off as I was taking out a 4" diameter bush.

I know that feeling. I told the guy about 3 days to do the front yard...2 weeks later we were still cutting it.

Nice work, my friend. That is some hot temps to work in. Glad you got your part done safely. Those leaners can be trouble, even with a bore cut.

Was he cutting the "smaller" wood only? When i first got my 261 i ran a 20" bar and had it buried several times and was impressed with it. Better with 16" IMO. What other saws did he bring? Bet youre felling it today???

His only other saw is a stihl 170 that he got for a saw to use from a lift on a job that I helped him on .Hired on to help with a tree It has turned out to be a real p.o.s. Last 2 times we’ve worked together he has asked about what I thought a good Husqvarna would be for his needs, I’ve suggested a 562. He has one other stihl that crapped out on him with very little time on it, said it was a little bigger but couldn’t remember what model. I don’t know stihls well enough to suggest a particular model but I’m thinking he needs something in the 60 cc range.
He was cutting some pretty good sized stuff, burying the bar from both sides so 30” maybe

170 is a homeowner level saw. I owned one for several months and sent it packing. The only "bad" Stihl ive owned.
    60cc saw would be an MS362 (carb) or 362c (mtronic) currently mfd. MS361, MS360, 036 earlier versions. I own a 361.

Excellent choice. Able to run a 25" bar. Although i wouldnt recommend it unless just cutting softwoods which i know you harvest a lot of. Never have owned one, but do own a 361, which is what the 362 evolved from. Ive come close to buying one as im always looking for saw deals.
I prefer the Mtronic versions of their pro saws. Auto adjusting carb.

For stuff that size, or anything close to it, you want power. A ported 372 would be about perfect.

There's a used MS362 on FBM locally. Maybe I should grab it before it's gone? Even comes with a new bar (25") and chain.

That one looks a little high to me. I thought that’s what I paid not mine new, but that was 7-8 years ago. Now it’s ported and doesn’t get run as much as I love running my ported 460 most the time.

Yea, $825 is crazy money but can't help but think they'll get it because it's a Stihl.
