Look at the videos again. First thing is u have a larger displacement saw and it only looks to me to be a 1/2 sec faster? The mtronics alone is worth more than that? It is a fine lookin and runnin saw though but id be worried about service and parts unless Im missing something?

Same thing with all the vintage muscle saws. No ones walking into a home lite or mccullah dealership and buying parts over the counter. What about all the old german stihl. The coveted 090...I guess no one wants those either?

Most of the parts interchange with the Dolmar and Makita models. The Solos were known for being great running saws but like a lot of great products, they never gained enough traction against the big names to be more than a footnote. Your concerns about parts availability are exactly why you don't see certain brands working in the woods, even if the saw itself is a beast.

I'm not sure these 665s/675s/681s were ever really intended to be sold in the US which would explain the lack of a robust support network.

Perhaps. My understanding is that there was some kind of non-compete agreement since Solo designed the Dolmar/Makita siblings to these saws.

We have gotten to a day and age where it would be difficult to get a non-mtronic/AutoTune saw to pass emissions standards without strato charging or cat mufflers.

Parts are still available for them.
2008 was when these were pulled.

And it did beat it Clem, but watch the video. As Kg461 stated, only stopwatch can tell the miniscule difference in time. From the fastest 362 time to the slowest 665 time is tenths of a second.

Kg461- Parts can be had for these saws very easily and you can still find them online. But because Solo was bought out, you must be able to read German. ;)

I don't know how or when this turned into an argument. Clem, it does not matter to me which one won? I've stated it before, and I will state it again. They are both phenomenal saws. Clearly different power delivery and clearly different designs. But both are mine and I like them just fine.

Why do you always have to be so argumentative? The only one that this should matter to is me? I'm not pizz'd about it? Nor do I care that a ported saw was beat by a stock saw.

Leave it be.. Both great saws..

I'll admit that at quick glance at the model numbers (362 vs 665) I thought the saws were closer in displacement then the actually are (59 vs 66.9)

But the stock hp rating isn't that far apart at 4.7 vs 4.9 for the solo. I'm not trying to start anything, but... I would have figured that a ported saw would gain enough to more than make up for that .2 hp difference. And based on the Dyno graphs going around I would have expected the ported 362 to be noticeably faster then the solo... But what do I know, I've never run either saw --- We need a retest when both saws have been thoroughly broken in.

Until then I'll be willing to blame dexter. (Or the chain)

Dex you must of took what I said wrong. I know you dont care which one won. I never meant it to sound that way. And I know the 665 beat it but yes less than a second every time often closer...none of us would see that without a watch esp cutting firewood.

    There both bad saws.

I was more sticking up for why someone would want one

Mike has a point. Those saws were not run with the same chain in the first vid.

In another thread, @KilliansRedLeo stated it was because Solo wanted to one up Dolkita since they were strong-armed into not competing with them in the US.
