I hand sharpen my chains with the Husqvarna file kit. It does a good job for me but I have worn it out and needs replacement. Though I am totally satisfied with the Husqvarna kit I am curious to others opinion of it or if anyone feels another option is better and why. Thanks.

I think a lot of ppl here are using the electric sharpeners. I still use a granberg contraption myself.

What does the kit consist of?
I use the Husqvarna file roller on .325 chain and the depth gauge plates for .325, 3/8 and .404. Unless arthritis wrecks my hands, I’ll always hand file.

I use the same one. It's the only one I have ever used so I am just curious as to other's experiences.

I think they (the roller guides) work great and eventually help you learn to file without the guide. The method of maintaining the depth gauges/rakers with the plate on the guide is by far the best IMHO. If you wanted to get another tool/toy, look into the Timberline. You're not going to get sharp quicker but those jigs do a great job of making every single cutter exactly the same length/angle etc. And the finish it leaves on the cutter is very fine.
I moved on from round filing to square a couple years ago and never looked back. The files for this method are not cheap and the learning curve is steep. BUT, it cuts faster than round, is smoother and holds it edge better. I eventually sold a ported saw to fund a grinder that can sharpen square. You will never catch me cutting without a razur sharp chain.

Timberline Chainsaw Sharpener | Sharpen your chainsaw the faster, easier way with Timberline Chainsaw's patented sharpener.

I love my Stihl 2 in 1, IMO it is the best all around. It's fast, its easy, does the rakers, and it sharpens extremely well. Only con is it's a bit pricey but worth it to me.

Can you use multiple file sizes and is it easy to keep the correct angle while filing?

Yes and Yes. That orange area pops open to swap out files. The way you align it on the chain allows for almost perfect angle every time. You can't really hold it any other way but the correct angle. I just learned/noticed the other day after having for a few years there are marks on the file showing the correct angle along with the edge of the tool showing the correct angle. If you have time check out some reviews on youtube it's really a great tool.

Can you use for different pitch chains or is it pitch specific?

I have gone to using a Dremel. So far, game changer for me. Easy, effective, no hand pain. Will keep using until convinced otherwise.

It’s an advantage, actually, as mine is cordless. And I’ve been sharpening by eye, no attachment.

I carry a file in my little tool kit just in case. I carry several chains and swap them out when needed, then grind at home. I like the consistency of ground chain.

I have 3 different pitches of the 2-1 along with individual files. The 2-1 does a good job, especially for a quick touch up when refueling. The 2-1 doesn't take the depth gauges down as much as I like so I use a flat file and a progressive plate when I feel the saw not pulling as hard as I want. I will use a round file after the 2-1 sometimes too. I can feel the round file grabbing for a pass or two even after the 2-1 sharpened a chain. Maybe I need new files for the 2-1 but I can see it pulling metal still.

I have a Timberline sharpener I'll sell with extra cutters and parts. I purchased a Superjolly and a CBN wheel and never went back to the Timberline.

I honestly don’t use mine much either. Got a square grinder so the only use it gets is when my brother-in-law asks me to sharpen his chains.

The Axeman Commeth I’d hit up Ralphie Boy on his if you want a new toy/tool.
