Ok. My mom's been trying to troubleshoot the camper's furnace. It will turn on and run the first time m but it will not restart after it's cooled off enough to have the thermostat tell the furnace to start up again. She had a neighbor attempt to get it to work, so I'm playing telephone between my mom and him. I'd rather have you guys help me out so I know wtf really is going on I'll be going up for deer hunting next weekend, and it'll be child, so if like to figure this out so I can stay warmer. We do have an oil filled electric radiator type space heater, so that hopefully will do the trick if I can't get the furnace going. The 30 Lb propane tank is full, just switched it. Do you need to light the pilot on these? It sounds like it. If that is the case, but I've never had to before. The heat worked great for years. I read about a 12v battery on board these campers, and she furnaces need that to work. Perhaps that battery is dead, not allowing the furnace to kick in? The propane works, as the gas cooktop works. When I get up to the cashier Friday night, I'll be able to get more into it than I can tell from 200 miles away. It's a mid 90's wildwood 30' pull behind camper off that helps. The AC works great, so I know the t stat works. But side green the thermostat, those 2 systems are separate
Try bypassing the thermostat at the furnace just to get that out of the equation. Mid 90's I'd check every electrical electrical connection in the furnace, especially the push on connections.
The furnace does need power to run. Doesn't matter if it's shoreline or battery though. If there isn't enough power to run the blower it probably is turning off. I'm not sure if they used ignition boards or not, could be the ignitor going bad. I'd use a lighter when it tried to call for heat and see if it lights. could also be a mud dauber made it into the workings or mice droppings and isn't allowing it to breather. I haven't had to deal with my furnace yet but I know on the fridge the ignitor board was the same as my furnace and they pretty much operate the same. If you have access to a portable air compressor , take it with you and blow out everything you can get to.
Not a furnace tech but they are pretty easy to trouble shoot with you tube. It sounds like a pilot light or thermocouple is going out when the furnace shuts off requiring a relight each time. I’ve had problems with Spider mites in the pilot light previously.
Probably full of bugs and crap and needs a good cleaning. Why we keep our RV inside the barn when not being used.
I use screens over the inlets and outlets on my camper. It helps. Something like you need to measure the fridge door vents and get the right size. I've only used mine for 2 seasons but so far ok. It has at least kept the bees from building nests in those areas. Instead they build it behind the awning now hah
Can you possibly elaborate on the exact sequence of what is happening? Is it a turn it off and back on and it works for one cycle.... Or it tried to ignite and locks out.... The fact that it works fine for one cycle leads me to believe that the burners air path isn't blocked. Is the flame sensor using the conductivity of the flame? If so clean it shiny.
What I have no the I need them because it's inside unless we are using it.. One thing about an RV, you leave it out in the weather all the time and sooner or later the roof leaks and it starts rotting. Why ours sleeps inside the barn all the time. 12 years old and just like new, inside and out.
Ours is essentially a tent, that has Air conditioning, and strut bed to be set up. It usually has a furnace too.. When I get up to the camper for deer hunting on Friday, I'll see what I can do. I think it's asking the lines of needing to be cleaned. The power comes from the pole shed with an extension cord to the camper. Never had an issue before, so it must pull the power for the furnace from that.
Ok, I tried to get the furnace going, but timing is everything. Let's just say that attempting to do this in the dark, or when it's 4° out is a tough situation. I was able to get the oil filter radiator type heater and the stove burners( closely supervised) to get the camper barely habitable Friday night, and much better Saturday after the space heater had all day to work. I'll tackle the furnace in spring or summer.
Definitely need to consider power as your friend. We turn up the furnace before we shut down at night as we're on expensive gas and propane generator. If you can get batteries and juice up, should work but that's how we do it. Shut off furnace until the furballs need to use the potty at OMG- thirty. Then turn it back on again for the last 3 hours of sleep.
Oh yeah. definitely, Friday night was a little rough, I was watching TV on the couch in thermal underwear, hunting socks, my mummy sleeping bag zipped all the way around my face, 3 blankets on me hoodie up and winter stocking cap on and the space heater facing me with a small fan blowing the heater's output at me. But I had an awesome deer hunt from this weekend, and got a nice buck on Sunday AM.
