We were at 10 degrees this morning. Yesterday was 32 and windy. Looks like low 50's today.

 

31/70 just relit the stove with some chunks and cookies. Looks like the cold weather is here to stay this time.

 

SW Michigan.. Rain and snow showers likely, becoming all rain after 1pm. Cloudy, with a steady temperature around 37. West northwest wind 7 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. Ash/Cherry

 

39° and raining, very damp and feels much colder. It is time to officially start the burning season. Starting with tulip poplar and sassafras.

 

20% chance of a dusting last night. We got 3".

 

Well high for next 4 days is 40* so stove will finally get lit
Not to worry about over heating the windows are still open at 55 but the suns out!

 

7 below this morning, but warmed way up to 28. Beautiful outside. Seems like everyone is done firewooding. The mountains are getting harder to get into. Still can some places with chains.

White everywhere you look outside. Good thing is, it isn't the heavy wet moisture laden heart attack snow. Probably 8" so far that is settling and melting thanks to the ground temps.

Currently 51⁰ in Bremerton, WA. My dad told me he had a hell of a time getting the insert going yesterday. Sucks to hear when he's struggling, I have tried to get him to learn the stove but some things take much longer to learn so the house is warm over here. My mom has dementia so this kind of thing helps her enjoy the little moments. They also just had that new fireplace tile put in, used to be a white quartz. I noticed the metal pieces like the intake air and the chimney valve are rubbing. I'm not an expert on that but hopefully it's just noisy and doesn't affect performance. Had to be the workers putting things back. Anyways it'll head down to freezing tonight. Most of that through the week anyways. Their wood rack is full for for the next couple days.

First fire of the season here at our home. Had several fires already at our up nort cabin though.

It is 31F outside. So I put in 5 oak splits on the bottom and did a top down start. 46 minutes later STT hit 700F.
The little ball of tin foil shows me my max temp.

 

Pretty good idea! Simple too.

 

I tried a stainless steel ball bearing but is was so slippery it would always redline when the pointer first hit it.
The tin foil “ball bearing” is rough so it stays put!

 

45 here this evening. Going to 35 by morning. Just loaded up the Wood Gun with a mix of Ash, Elm, and Pine. I had left the Wood Gun off for 6 days while away helping a brother out on a project.

We built some large doors for his new workshop.

Still finish work for him to do, and hardware. But the hard, and time consuming, part is done.

-13c/8.5f right now. The stove is loaded to the gills with Mr Doug Fir. Im hoping I can coax it into coals by bed time for a reload. My son finally asked for help putting on the winters on his truck so once we were done that late afternoon I had a chill that I cant shake. A movie and popcorn in the "hot seat" (the chair closest to the wood stove) will fix that I think!

Was in the high 60s a few days ago and got about 2in of rain then dropped to the low 30s over night, the forecast now is low 30s for highs and lows teens at night, been burning Burr oak the last few days.

14 degrees here in Dodge city Ks this morning. Have burned through an ibc tote of fuglies so far this fall. Forecast says s lows in the teens and 20’s for next 10 days, highs around 40….so filled the shed on the patio today with better stuff. Holds about 2/3 of a full cord…3steps from the stove. BTW what I call “good” stuff here is mostly elm. Can’t complain though, dry, standing, bark less is pretty abundant and heats my 2200 sq ft home with no issues. Would rather cuss a bit than pay the gas bill. They changed my meter after I installed the NC30 (actually at my lat 2 residences). Both times, I went and asked what they were doing…both times they told me they were changing out a faulty meter. I said, oh faulty for what reason??? Drastic reduction in usage was the reply both times. I just smiled and gestured toward the 3 year firewood supply fairly close to where they were working both times and then smiled and walked away. Feels GREAT to know I can be as warm as I want to be, even in sub zero temps, and the gas company can kiss my azz!!!
