I'll not forget that day, especially the weather. Thought I was going to roll the truck in one of the gusts. Plus the temperature dropping fast. Then we heard about the loss of the ship...

I was too young to remember the actual day, but I spent 15 yrs as a merchant sailor on the Great Lakes. It's always a solemn day for me.
On top of that this is the 16th anniversary of me getting evacuated off a ship after an injury were I nearly lost my eye

This is my sister and brother in laws place at Marblehead,OH on Lake Erie.
A lot of the sailors on the Edmund were from Oregon,OH which is back towards Toledo.
Every time we are down there and my wife gets into the wine she will start singing the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. :D
Of course she gets teased about it all the time.

I had just turn 13 a few days before. I remember the news reports and later that song became one of my favorites.
When we left your place, Dennis, we went north. Explored a little of the UP, made it to Iroquois Point lighthouse on Whitefish Bay. Found out the next day we were only 15-20 miles from Whitefish Point and the museum. Sure hated we missed that. Hope to 1 day make it back there.

Gordon did a very good thing memorializing the crew with this song.

There is so much to see and visit in the UP. You have only scratched the surface. It gets even better as you head west.

Looks to be a very interesting building with maybe some history attached? How old is it?

Sounds like a plan. We could even maybe get Adam to his place up there and stop in. It is near the big spring which is really neat to see.

Built in 1861 by the owner of the limestone quarry Alexander Clemons. Sleeps something like 32 people. 8 full baths 5 half baths.
She gets something like 1800.00 a night in the summertime with a week minimum I believe.

For summer time she has been booked a year in advance a lot of time. It sounds like a lot of money but for 7-8 family's for a reunion they would almost be paying that for a hotel, plus be forced to eat out. Where at The Rock you can cook for yourselves. Google
