When I looked into it, I came up with it being much better than silver but not quite as good and the top maples.

That's good. I can deal with mid grade.
My biggest fear is that I will get all excited about a wood and collect a bunch of it only to discover its the same as something like balsa. A lot of work for nothing.
Since its not sugar, maybe it will dry quick for me. :)

I told my wife that this is the wood that she should split.

Yep, looks like it. I've got a bunch of silver in my stacks, though :) I like it for shoulder season.

I still have three big rounds of maple something that haven't been split yet. I think its silver, but it splits like a marble counter top.

Mine only split rough the first week after cutting it into rounds.

    No hard feelings.

Norway is a good BTU wood, in between Sugar and the rest as has been pointed out. But it is an invasive species, imported from Europe as an ornamental shade tree. It isn't harvested for timber, which is where the terms soft and hard maple came from. So as a result it isn't either but as firewood it is pretty good.

Then we can all agree! Norway maple is evil and should be cut up into pieces, split up, and burned! :firepit:
