IMG_1998.JPG Drove by this yesterday. Fresh cut ash. State work. Some nice wood. Had to go that way again today so took a couple saws along for the ride. Room to park safely on the side street. Wood was bulldozed farther into the woods since yesterday. :hair: Hour into the cut a big state dump truck shows up, then an Asplundh truck. Had a few minutes to load what i had cut as they were cutting more and i had to leave. Dang. I had cut smaller stuff as the big wood wont be touched by the average hoarder. Some sugar maple in the mix too. IMG_1999.JPG IMG_2000.JPG IMG_2001.JPG IMG_2002.JPG IMG_2003.JPG
So prior to their arrival, a guy stops and asks if i wanted more wood. Had a few trees taken down and lived on the cul de sac. Went and checked it out. Topped the load off with some red maple. Left the oak. The wood gods were looking out for me! IMG_2004.JPG IMG_2005.JPG IMG_2006.JPG IMG_2007.JPG IMG_2008.JPG
Split about 2/3 of the load. Ill go back for more Wednesday. At least a load of big stuff. 20-24"

They were just pruning and said i could come back by three and i was out of there by then. Its far enough off the road to keep average hoarders at bay. Not me though! :saw: :woodsign:

Said it before and I’ll say it again. I’m surprised there’s any trees left near you. Do they ever stop?
    Nice scores.

So do you ever really do any carpenter work any more? Or are you pretty much just a full time wood hoarder and firewood seller?

Depends on work scheduling, score availability and where im working. Tis the season for wood sales and the weather is ideal for scrounging although Monday we had record highs in the upper 70's. Ill plan around scores where i can and this was the case here. A bit farther than normal but quality of wood was worth it. May have time to grab more as "normal" job not far from there

    Wow....awesome find!!
So it sounds like you can go back for more at will? And they're cutting more to boot?
That does look like good straight splittable wood.

The big stuff still there. Comparable to the stuff i helped you cut. Ill go back when im in the area or working near there. The wood in the yard is oak and not taking that.

I can’t even imagine what it’d be like to regularly come across this incredible wood, already down, close-ish to the road. :( Lucky duck!

Fairly common sight to see. I have become a snob as to what i take. Turned down an "easy" sugar maple score couple weeks back. Right in the yard. back up, cut and load. It was too gnarly of a tree.
