After 28 years of doing all the things that wood heating entails, this will be our last winter to enjoy that special warmth a good stove can make. It's been an incredible ride! We've had up to 10 full cords rotating through the three year plan and let the supply dwindle in anticipation of moving into our condominium this spring. The pictured stack of honey locust is all that's left in the yard after loading this winter's worth of maple, hickory & locust into the downstairs staging area. For years, I've followed the hoarders here do their wooding activities but don't recall seeing anyone winding down like I'm doing soon. So a big thank you to everyone here and to everyone who ever was here. This 'club' is the most welcoming and informative forum in the universe, hands down. I leave behind this activity with mixed feelings, but overall, in honesty, I've gotten too old & slow and it's time to downsize. I wish you the best in this incredible endeavor - no matter what it is to you (hobby or necessity or exercise or business or sufficiency or whatever). Hoard on fellow burners! Gary
Well, Gark we all do what we have to do. Enjoy your free time and a new part to your life. It is funny because I did just the opposite as you. I got out of the city when I retired and went to a rural area in the middle of nowhere and have been heating with nothing but wood ever since.
I'll probably buy wood when I just can't stay ahead of my own use. I'm not there yet, but it is on the horizon. We downsized to a small two bedroom, one bath 20 years ago . Every now and then you have to pick a path. Doesn't matter if it's the best one as long as it isn't a bad one.
They say all good things must come to an end. Enjoy each and every fire this season and good luck on your new endeavors.
Oh yeah, absolutely I'll miss that nice even heat. I'll still cringe next winter every time the gas furnace kicks on. you can't just switch gears after so many years of disliking a gas furnace. I'll still be visiting here and living vicariously through all you all.
Bet it's been a heck of a ride. We all move on to different things. Many here don't often tell those transitions, mine included but I am willing to accept those things we cannot change or control. Best of luck and stick around. Your knowledge of your burning through the years is what makes us valuable here.
