My neighbor is 86 years young, and still burns wood when the temperatures get down pretty cold. So today I took a few minutes to bring her up some wood from her wood shed. She has let me cut trees off of her property in the past, so I always like to keep her stocked up when I can.

Feels good to help those who have a harder time doing for themselves. Good on you!

I had an old friend that used exclusively wood heat until the day he died at 80. Even though I hadn't seen him in years I heard through the grapevine that his health was failing and he was having a hard time putting up wood for the winter. This started a yearly tradition that last for 4 years until he died. Right about the first cold snap I would bring him a big truck load of wood, a bottle of wine and dinner. We would just sit and catch up over the bottle of wine and dinner after I got done loading the wood into his porch. Not only did it warm his house but I think it warmed his heart too, he was a widower who lived alone. I brought him wood for the last time just a couple weeks before he past last year. RIP Bob!

She has a wood stove and gets it check every couple of years. I make sure she is always burning dry wood also.

Chris G and GrJfer, you guys are great!

I am 80 but don't have help... But wait!!!! It seems every spring there are a bunch of hoarders that show up at our place. We all have a good time with plenty of food, drink and good times around the camp fire. We also enjoy putting up wood for a neighbor and when they all leave to go to their homes, there is always a heap of firewood left here for me. What a bunch of great hoarders! Thanks guys and gals.

    You guys are awesome!

I do what I can for my two widows one directly across the street from me who is 68, and the other just a 1/8th of a mile down the road she is 80, as well as a guy neighbor who is my age, but he's physically in pretty tough shape. The guy burns, and the two widows don't. Most of what I do is help with their lawn care, leaf-blowing and snow-blowing. But over the last couple years I've begged out of being Mr. Shvel guy for every winter storm, it's just too much for this old body and managing my own property.

Hats off to you guys! I tell my wife all the time, "if I go first, sell the house and move into a condo".

Good on ya bud. As I grew older I figured out the giving feels much better than the getting.

Yo Yawner with all the gear you have for firewood I would think your more suited to be in Alaska or Canada instead of Louisiana.

A key reason I have all that there is because when I need to know the name of this gizmo, or that gizmo, or the model number, I can look here and find it! And as for having it in the first place, lots of the gear does double duty on other things. And I'm in NORTH Louisiana. Even cajuns burn wood, lol, and they can throw a rock and hit the Gulf!
