After putting in a few loads of shoulder season wood, changed some seasonal flags for the wife, I started splitting and stacking the beech and ironwood.
The lake has been pretty flat during this warm spell and I have been pretty sore from the log pile so.......no fishing here.
That looks nice. I finally ID an ironwood down here on a friend's place. He thought it was elm, I knew the bark wasn't quite right for elm. Checked it with my app... He said he cut a lot of them when he worked on a survey crew, tough stuff with a bush axe.
yooperdave , we're just getting older. T.Jeff Veal , it's a smaller tree but throws some nice heat. I've gone after more diseased or topped off higher btu wood in the last three years so we're good for about three or four years out depending on how cold January and February get. We finally received a soaking rain (we needed it) so it might be a day off.
Just one ash felled today, I bucked up 34 rounds before going to an appointment, I'll buck up the rest tomorrow and hopefully s/s some of it. Once this next 2 face cord stack is full, we'll have room for 4 more face cord for a total of 66 of hardwood.
It seems like there's enough EAB damaged trees around, this tree seemed pretty good but the one next to it has a bunch of holes in it from woodpeckers. We already have some trees that lost their tops and others that the roots rotted out and the tree fell over.
I moved the ash rounds (three trailer loads, two pictured) over to the splitting area. The area the ash rounds were in will need more cleanup before the splitter gets in that area. Picture 3354 is the part I cleaned up so I could get the rhino and the trailer in closer to the ash rounds, 3356 is the old maple, I threw everything from the trail cleaning up against the maple tree and the last picture is the splitting area, ash and ironwood.
