Thankya Sir! Finally getting to it, now that it's cooler. I like having a pile of stuff that needs to be processed. I start getting out of sorts when I don't have wood in the yard to split. Majority of it is honey and black locust.

 

I get too many rounds i get stressed. Like to keep up with them (not always possible). Saw my first thorny HL today. Just posted a thread. The thornless are rather common around here.

 

That's a lot of wood.

 

I split everything by hand. So, it's kinda my meditation time I guess. I work from home, so when I take a break, I like to go over and swing the axe, or maul, for 15 to 20 minutes. That said, the area by the split stuff, usually isn't this bad. I got hammered with tree jobs, then the heat came and I had a mess. But I'm getting it whittled down.

 

Yes Ma'am. I like to stay a few years ahead.

 

That's a nice woodyard. I thought I saw some hedge in there. Great BTU's you have there.

 

Thankya Sir! Yeah there's a few smaller pieces of hedge you can see in the second picture. I took down a smaller 25 ft tall tree about 12" in diameter a couple years ago. A buddy helped me, so we split it. There isn't much of it. I do get a bit of hedge from old fence rows, that people take out and replace with new creosote posts and t posts. That stuff's amazing!

 

Currently at the Cord Hoarder level. Spent part of the day working up some oak.

I might have missed it, but how much wood did you say you went through in the heating season?
I too split by hand about 17 cord this year. Well 13 or 14 not counting what our dear son split with me. It it therapeutic for sure.
I hit it during the work week, a little here and there, we've been bringing home about half a cord a week, but also spending many hours behind the chainsaw.

 

I burn about 5 cord a year between the house and garage. It's one of my hobbies for sure. This is as low as I've been in quite a few years. I had 24 cord split and stacked 2 years ago, but sold a lot of it, because I was getting so much locust . I figured I'd move the less desirable stuff and replace it with good wood.

 

This might be the year to have a lottle excess....with HHO and lpg prices onnthe rise. I hope you find a really lucrative score and maybe a set of hands to help bring it in.

I think the rest of it will go into a burn pile. I cut two more big rounds off, not shown in this pic. The rest is filled with mud/dirt and would be some tough cutting.

 

Instead of watching football all day, I decided to be a somewhat productive.

 

Wise choice. I wouldve done the same!

 

Scored some dead Ash and red oak today. My neighbor introduced him to a fellow who has a unlimited supply in my area. It is on the very top of the Blue Ridge mountains. It’s close to a driveway beside a small house with a million dollar view. Gated community but the folks are friendly and very grateful to me for ridding them of the dead trees in their yard.
I was starting to worry because I’ve already used up my seasoned oak.

I guess it’s who you know. I also know that the Lord will provide. I’m thankful that at 67 years old I’m still able to cut and hand split my own firewood. Also grateful for great neighbors.
