A little bit of research on the internet showed it reasonable to expect around #150 of meat off an adult cow. I kept the ribs, 2 leg bones (for soup) and the whole neck. So the 150# of boneless meat was pretty much spot on.
Just shot some groceries. Decided it was early enough to try for a double and climbed back in the tree.
Ended up shooting another doe at last light. Feels good to have some meat for the freezer. Both deer went 10 yards and expired. Lots of practice but it paid off. Grim reaper broadheads are no joke.
***THIS IS NOT MY DEER!*** Eau Claire County is about 3 and a half hours north of me. Where this 26 year old guy got his deer on Oct 30. 192 inches if scored typical The bucks sheds from the previous two years are in the foreground
Not much of late. Same doe with little ones. One has produced triplets last 2 years, so we let her walk. Had one shot opportunity on a doe, but she was quartering hard away from. She took steps in the wrong direction. No shot. Spike buck chasing doe, so rut is starting up.
Nice work lukem . Love when they drop within sight. I've got to make it through today at work then I'm off for the next 9 days! It's my annual "rut-cation". Things started heating up in the woods this past week and also had a nice shooter 9pt show up tues afternoon in daylight. He was pushing does for sure so I'm hoping he's still around in next few days. The weekend after next I'm off to deer camp in NY for the rifle opener. Man I love November
I guess I get to participate Sunday evening 12 yard shot, ran 105 yards and heard him drop. Blessed to have my best deer ever. Glad I heard him fall, as there was little blood (I hit him higher than I should)
Mine rut-cation is in 2 weeks. Hopefully it gets cooler. 74* today. Sweating my azz off in the stand today. Nice deer CoachSchaller
CoachSchaller congrats on great buck! Biddleman it's crazy how warm it is. I sat this morning and by 8am it was 65⁰. It almost hit 80 this afternoon . Temps are supposed to drop starting Monday so it should be much nicer in the woods.
So, deer season related, but no deer.... Buddy texted me this am when I'm on the way to work. Evidently he's muzzleloader hunting. Said "this is a turkey morning, not a deer morning." I figured he meant the feel and temps, it does feel like an early April day, in the 60s before 7am. Then he said "I've heard three gobble". I was like wtf... Just thought I'd tell yall cause figure yall would appreciate.... Deer don't seem to be moving too much right now. Acorns are absolutely everywhere. I think if we get a weather change they ought to be running.
***ANOTHER NOT MY DEER*** Neighbor kid about three miles from my woods arrowed a stud two weeks ago in a food plot. I haven’t seen any shooter bucks in my forty, several small 2 1/2 year olds are making the rounds tho,,
