Bitter sweet day today. My old bike shop boss pretty much has everything moved out of the shop. He’s closing up that place and will be operating from a friends shop for sales only. He sold me his tire machines. Gave me a parts washer and the BelRay shelf. Had him order me one last set of tires at cost. Getting back to the honey locust tomorrow.
Amazingly, the wood was dry. There was a lot of ash in the mix, but some basswood and elm. Today is round 2 of trick or treating at another friends house. This one gets crazy to the point that the street is essentially shut off with all the people. I will say that the number of trick or treaters was down quite a bit yesterday. I only had 1 tiny "fun size" candy yesterday. I'll need to make up for that today
I dunno who the smart guy that came up with that name was, but nothing fun about candy that small...it just pizzez me off!
Had to rest and relax today, too much wood to get and i have to recover. Wife cooked breakfast, we walked the dog and I took a siesta. Woke up cleaned up the saws, greased bar sprockets, sharpened 4 chains. Everything is ready to go hoard when I get the time. Its getting dark really early now and has been unseasonably warm, ready for the colder temps.
Leaves have fallen, the air is cold, and all the outdoor furniture is put away for the next 6-7 months.
Looks nice. Yesterday in the AM, looking out my back window the 2 maples were dropping leaves at a steady rate for over an hour. It was literally raining leaves.
Working on a shop project over the next few weeks. I'm putting in some new LED task lighting over my workbenches, installing some kitchen cabinets and countertop I got for free, general cleaning and organization, etc. It looks like a bomb went off in there now but it will be nice to have a more useable work area. I may buy a couple new roller toolbox/work benches too...not sure yet. We've been planning on building a new barn here for years...I think the time is drawing near. I have it narrowed down to 36'x56' with 12' walls, which is 50% bigger than what I think I need right now. On one wall it will have three 12'x10' overhead doors along the long side, and a 10'x10' slider on one of the short sides (to be able to get stuff out of the back without moving stuff around). It's not going to be cheap, but I don't think prices are coming down any time soon.
Thank you to all for the kind words/condolences. He was someone who truly cared about others. Family, community, his students and peers, country. And led by example of kindness, understanding, and doing to make things happen. One of my sisters sang beautifully in the funeral. One of my brothers spoke eloquently of our father and friend at the funeral. And then the Air Force personnel took care of the flag and played Taps at the cemetery. I was reminded again how very fortunate we all were to have such a man be a big part of our life. He will be remembered always, and missed.
New hire at work started a few weeks ago. I went to school with him when I was little, in fact we were kinda buddies and did a few things outside of school, but he never followed me into the older grades and we lost contact. I haven't brought it up yet. I'm not sure if he doesn't recognize me now or if he's waiting on me to do the same thing.
Had a nice buck in the neighbor's back yard. Probably the same one that was shredding up my newly planted trees from last fall. Here's the best pic I could get of him after zooming in. Nice wide, tall and symmetrical rack. I'm guessing 10 pts. Probably the small 8 pt that I got pics of last fall. If so he's grown nicely, but it could be a different one.
That looks really nice. Those cabinets look like they are in great shape - a steal at the price you paid.
